We are currently recruiting for a Senior Primary Design Engineer to be based in Melbourne for our client who operate predominately in the engineering of substations and HV infrastructure in the renewable energy and power transmission industries.

 

Location - Melbourne

Duration – Full time – Permanent

 

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Engineer - Primary Electrical Design provides high quality advice and support associated with the installation of EHV and HV equipment and the modification of existing equipment in substations
  • Provision and assessment of new technology and innovation, technical and regulatory code compliance, standards, programs and provision of technical review capability, principally for the design engineering aspects of power engineering operations.
  • Contributes to the day-to-day delivery of engagements for clients, as well as undertakes other specific business performance and improvement roles as required. This includes mentoring of professionals and graduates.
  • Maintain excellent communications with existing clients and develop opportunities for engaging new clients.
  • Provide high calibre engineering and consulting services in the discipline area, including:
  • Substations, equipment, and layouts
  • EHV and HV earthing design and earth performance testing
  • Insulation co-ordination and lightning protection
  • Arc Flash
  • Provide technical reviews and support on projects
  • Assist Business Development Managers and Key Account Managers
  • Lead and develop capability of an effective team
  • Ensure compliance with the company quality management system (QMS)

 

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in design of HV installations and plant, particularly applied to high voltage electrical installations, power stations, switchyards, and substations.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems/risk management processes.
  • Ability to solve complex technical and operational problems, either through a systematic approach or innovation
  • Willingness to incorporate continuous improvement in own practice and contribute to team and organisational continuous improvement, including undertaking appropriate professional development opportunities

 

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or a related discipline as required for admission as a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, or another appropriate professional body
  • Chartered / Professional Engineer (desirable)
