The Development Scientist will work in the Berkeley biological development upstream organization. The work includes general mammalian cell culture tasks including cell expansion, bioreactor cultures and occasional media/solution prep activities. The work may also require some work related to cell therapy projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work in the cell culture development organization
- Work in a team of scientists
- Small scale cell culture work (usually CHO cells producing Mabs)
- Thawing mammalian cells and subsequent cell expansion under a laminar flow hood (aseptic techniques are a requirement)
- Analytical measurements (cell counts, metabolites, gases) during each passage
- Bioreactor cultures and setup
- Bioreactor inoculation and daily sampling including necessary adjustments (feeding, probe adjustments, etc.)
- Media/solution prep for the bioreactor cultures
- Preparing media, feeds, solutions needed for bioreactor cultures
- Occasional work related to cell therapy projects (primary human cells)
- Similar to the work with CHO cells, thawing, passaging, etc.
- Small scale as well as bioreactor cultures
- Data recording
- Transfer of data into appropriate database
- The work will require weekend/off hours work
- Candidate should have a BS degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or in a similar field (higher degree optional)
- Familiar with basic aseptic techniques including basic laboratory skills (pipetting, etc.)
- Familiar with general mammalian cell culture work (work under laminar flow hood, basic knowledge of analytics related to mammalian cell culture)
- Basic solution preparation skills related to mammalian cell culture.
- Good communication skills and must be a team player
- Bioreactor experience
- Previous work in cell therapy
- GMP experience
