The Instrument & Automation Engineer will support design and installation of the instrument, controls and automation systems for the Pikka project. The Instrument & Automation Engineer will work closely with the MAC Manager and wider project engineering team, providing technical oversight of instrument, controls, and automation systems to ensure appropriate interface with other engineering systems. The Instrument & Automation Engineer will ensure that design standards and specifications are adhered to and that all deliverables against project timelines are met.
The Instrument & Automation Engineer, working with the MAC Manager will help ensure the ICSS system design and delivery complies with the requirements of the main automation contractor (MAC) contract. The Instrument & Automation Engineer will help facilitate interface management between the main automation contractor (MAC) and the other engineering contractors for the project elements (processing facility, seawater treatment plant, operations camp, drillsite) as well as with any third parties (e.g. connections into existing infrastructure). This role is vital to ensure the technical and execution aspects of the project receive the right engineering support required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Instrument & Automation Engineer collaborates closely with the MAC Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure project success. The main duties of the role include:
- Interface with EPC/EPF to ensure timely review of engineering documents.
- Provide oversight and guidance for contract Instrument & Automation engineers.
- Provide ‘in-house’ engineering design, construction support, and startup assistance for the project.
- Participates in the development of operation, maintenance, and start-up philosophies.
- The Instrument & Automation Engineer will participate in executing functional safety activities, participate in process hazard analysis and safeguard protection analysis meeting sessions.
- The Instrument & Automation Engineer is responsible for the development and integration of Functional Safety standards and industry common practices.
- Participates in the development of operation, maintenance, and start-up philosophies.
- Reviews proposed changes to Instrument & Automation equipment.
- Confirms compliance of Instrument & Automation systems to specifications.
- Ensure all designs are safe to install and operate.
- Assisting with contractor performance management.
- Provide guidance to contractors (e.g., regarding tradeoffs on design and cost, Owner preferences, etc.).
- Interface management with facility engineering contractors and system design contractors.
- Assisting with response to technical queries (TQ’s/RFI’s).
- Management of automation system spares.
- Supports in the implementation of the F&G detection design

Formal Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate field.
- Applicants must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States, and must have their employment eligibility verified by a completed Form I[1]9.
- 10+ years of major international oil / gas projects in execution and delivery roles
- Clearly demonstrated strong technical competence in the Automation and Control field
- Demonstrated experience in system integration, testing and on-site startup
- Experience designing and programming control systems (Emerson Delta V DCS desired)
- Experience managing similar A&C contracts
- Ability to work within a diverse cultural environment
- Demonstrated interpersonal / teambuilding skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Alaska experience preferred
