I am recruiting for a Sustaining Engineer in Aberdeen, UK on a staff basis for a US owned specialist in oilfield services laser technology.
This role will report to the Operations Manager (daily reporting) and VP (technical reporting) and requires 20% travel (domestically and internationally).
The successful candidate will provide support of the sustaining activities of laser based downhole tool applications. He/she must be able to demonstrate a track record of being creative, disciplined, and a self-starter. He/she must have an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving, the ability to accomplish successful technological innovations, and bring projects to fruition. Responsibilities will include sustaining product engineering and operations support.
Candidates require a degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline and 10+ years experience in mechanical design, specifically in the area of wireline tool design, packer design, conveyance, etc, and structural analysis. Experience in the operation of general offshore support equipment; Experience with metallic and elastomeric materials used in oilfield applications; Experience with solid modeling CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and detail design documentation; Ability to work within a team environment and excel in a fast-paced smaller company; Experience working with machine shops; Offshore experience and certifications a plus.
The role will be Sustaining product engineering support for existing tools; Modifying exiting designs to meet customer applications; Creating mathematical models and design documentation; Interfacing with machine shops to repair, modify, and manufacture new components; Designing and building surface support equipment and conducting tests in shop and field environments.
