One of our major clients in the Oil and Gas industry is seeking a Laboratory Chemist to work within their facilities in Rodeo, CA, on a 12-months contract.



  • Conduct laboratory analysis methods in accordance with established standards and practices, assuring instruments/equipment are properly maintained.
  • Routine testing and certification of hydrocarbons including Diesel and Gasoline.
  • Conduct water analysis as required for refinery operations and regulatory requirement
  • Troubleshoot and repair lab instrumentation such as gas chromatographs (GC’s)
  • Document results and report them using Laboratory Information Management system (LIMS)
  • Prepare and run calibration standards and quality control samples to help ensure laboratory analyses are within statistical control
  • Review lab analytical procedures to ensure compliance with ASTM, UOP, EPA, and/or other industry standards.
  • Train other lab personnel as required on lab analytical methods and other procedures
  • Help maintain lab supplies at acceptable levels
  • Perform and/or coordinate with outside labs routine and specialized testing as required
  • Additional projects, as assigned



  • Associate degree in physical sciences or higher
  • Experience working in R&D/QA/QC testing facility
  • Computer proficiency with typical Laboratory software (e.g., LIMS, GC software, statistical packages etc.)
  • Must possess/maintain valid driver’s license & TWIC card.
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, and Outlook.

You will stand out if you have:

  • 1 or more years of R&D/QA/QC/Production laboratory experience in petroleum refinery or an equivalent 3rd party laboratory. 
  • Advanced degree in Chemistry or physical science with emphasis on analytical/instrumentation methods.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, UOP, ISO, Federal, State, Local regulatory requirements, and methods
  • The ability to apply the basic statistical tools used in a refinery production laboratory to help ensure analytical results are in control.
  • Demonstrated development and implementation of original analysis methods.
  • Strong working knowledge of safe Laboratory practices.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels and value diversity.
