Lead Electrical Designer – Pinjarra, WA


Our client is seeking a Lead Electrical Designer to work within their facilities located in Pinjarra, WA supporting their refinery operations.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Electrical Designer to execute and effectively manage electrical design and drafting services for multiple brownfield upgrade projects associated with our client’s refinery operations. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical design experience in a refinery environment or within the resources industry and be located within a reasonable driving distance to their Pinjarra location.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver discipline specific design and drafting services that meet our client, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead and effectively manage resourcing of the electrical design team for the project and ensure that the design and drafting services meet project requirements on time and within budget.  
  • Perform discipline specific design and drafting services such as:   
    o    ensure the project scope is clear and that changes to scope comply with project change management processes;  
    o    prepare/assist and oversee the production of engineering drawings and documentation;  
    o    ensure all drawings and documents are checked in accordance with relevant checking procedures; and  
    o    participate in project reviews as required.
  • Provide specialist technical direction and advice to the discipline, discipline team and project teams;  
  • Participate in peer reviews and consult relevant resources as required.  
  • Actively contribute to the development and improvement of project design systems, processes,  
    practices and procedures (where required).  
  • Lead the site discipline team including:  
    o    outline project requirements, assign tasks and supervise progress;  
    o    ensure the overall technical integrity of its work;  
    o    motivate and manage the team’s performance, competency and develop staff within the group including the provision of on-the-job training;   
    o    initiate, manage and supervise, design and drafting assignments with the support team; manage coordination on a regular basis as required to effectively undertake the design. 
  • Assist in scoping requirements and estimating design budget in response to requests for Lead Engineers. 
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the project Lead Engineers, other discipline design teams, support team and Project Engineers/Managers on design progress, technical matters, workshare and resource planning.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Identify issues and problems; develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.

What you will bring:
  • At least 10 years Electrical and Instrumentation design and drafting experience in the Refinery/Resources Industry or similar industry.
  • Experience in Brownfield electrical systems modifications (LV/MV/HV) and knowledge of control system interfaces.
  • A good understanding of Australian electrical standards.
  • Highly effective technical and practical Electrical and Instrumentation design and drafting skills
  • Able to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to the client.
  • Proven skillset in utilizing the following software and tools:
    o    Microstation SE and or AutoCAD 18 and above.
    o    Microsoft Office and excel.
  • Pro-active with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Excellent customer focus and able to consistently meet client’s needs.    
  • Effectively manage change to work tasks and the work environment. 
  • Able to identify issues, problems and opportunities, make timely decisions, develop appropriate and innovative solutions. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey information and detail to overseas Support Office.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn and continuously improve on performance.
  • Able to work on multiple projects of various size and complexity.
  • Able to work effectively in a small multi-disciplinary team located on site.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Electrical or an Electrical Tradesperson who has completed the Electrical Design, Drafting and Estimates course.
  • Electrical License (highly regarded).
