Technology Manager role (paper/tissue making) - Bethune, SC or Windsor Locks, CT
Airswift is working in partnership with a publicly traded manufacturer of nonwovens as roll goods for wipes as well as for medical and hygiene products, which is currently looking to hire into their Global Process Optimization group a Manager for Wetlaid Technology who can align best
practices and achieve consistency across the company’s USA wetlaid lines.
The Manager of Wetlaid Technology will take a hands on and KPI led approach to achieve world class levels of manufacturing for all wetlaid lines in the companies US operations, which are located across the Bethune and Windsor Locks facilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Improve efficiency of wetlaid lines by taking ownership of KPIs (specifically OEE and RME), conducting root cause analysis and creating and actioning an efficiency improvement plan. Specific KPI goals will be to increase OEE and RME by 10-12%
- Assess specific situations or issues related to line performances and/or process control, develop corrective action plans with the local team, follow-up on the action plans and make sure actions implemented are solid and sustainable.
- Influence without managing other groups and teams, such as quality, operations, process and maintenance, to ensure improvement plans are successfully initiated and adopted, leading to overall performance improvement across the papermaking operations.
- Align both facilities with wetlaid technology- transferring of best practice.
- Ability to explain clearly and concisely to leadership, particular issues and lay out specific action plans to combat issues, taking ownership of these plans to ensure success
- Lead Performance improvements across the lines
- Working with capital projects teams and plant personnel to improve equipment reliability, understanding each plant has unique challenges where different solutions will be required.
- Lead and run product development trials: preparation, execution and conclusion
- Facilitating communication with production and quality to achieve world class manufacturing excellence and company strategic goals
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolving issues across entire wetlaid production area- from paper making through to slitter operations
- Participate to Capex request for process modifications.
- Travel and spend time in different Plants according to needs.
- Adhere to all safety and quality practices and organizational policies and procedures in all tasks and job functions. Recognize safety and quality as Core Operating Principles that are permanently at the top of priorities.
- Support Process Engineers in process control implementation and Critical to Quality parameters follow-up.
- Support local production management. Work directly with Production staff to strengthen and build strong papermaking skills internally.
- Suggest and justify process modifications
- Participate to Capex request for process modifications.
- Travel and spend time in different Plants according to needs.
- Adhere to the company's Core Operating Principles
Required Experience:
- At least 10 years’ process engineering experience in a paper or tissue manufacturing operation.
- Strong process optimization and problem solving skills.
- Hands on and practical, with ability to work to tight timelines
- Experienced working in a multi-cultural environment
- Collaborative individual, with excellent verbal/written communication across different levels of an organization
- Ability to make and effectively execute a plan
- Ability to influence without managing, specifically with ability to use knowledge and confidence to hold gravitas over a group or team to ensure successful implementation of improvement plans
- Understanding of automation and controls specific to a state of the paper making production line
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline (Paper Science, Engineering etc)
