Airswift is working in partnership with a leading pulp and paper company, operating a large fully integrated 24/7 containerboard mill. The facility has faced challenges in recent years due to previous inefficiencies. Company leadership are committed to investing in the successful turnaround of the facility, and have already completed major improvement projects. In order to secure future success of the facility, the company are seeking an Operations Manager to lead the front end of the facility- and develop key talent through strategic hiring, committing to maintenance improvements and reestablishing previously abandoned maintenance work systems.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Help drive organization forward, through continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build partnership with direct reports and the Vice President of Operations
  • Generate new ideas on improvement areas across the facility, and how to effectively speed up the mill turnaround process
  • Regularly engage with the hourly and salary teams, encouraging idea generation and commitment to making turnaround efforts a reality.
  • Understand current mill turnaround efforts through reviewing documentation of completed activities and adapting to subsequent needs and opportunities
  • Using company management tools to develop employees to be future leaders, in turn encouraging them to develop their own teams to be next generation leaders
Essential Skills & Experience Required:
  • Prior experience with paper machine operations, including knowledge of the paper mill processes and associated equipment
  • Strong technical background in paper-making and paper mill maintenance work systems
  • Impeccable integrity
  • Strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Participative individual who can effectively engage across all levels of the facility, including business leaders and their own team
  • Prior track record of successfully developing direct reports
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience with paper machine turnaround, with ability to provide specific examples of improving OEE/machine availability to over 95%.
  • Understanding of possible cost saving initiatives that will not impact mill performance
  • Ability to participate in out of box problem solving, that will not impact the paper machine operations. 
  • Systems orientated individual who can effectively motivate teams to successfully engage in safe work practices.
