Airswift is working in partnership with a leading Fortune 500 manufacturer of paperboard and paper-based packaging who are looking to hire for their future mill leaders' program across a number of their high performing paper mills across the country- opportunities would be within the papermaking function as either Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, with the intention of these individuals getting the relevant exposure to later move into Mill Management, General Management or Manufacturing Management.

The role would be based at the Michigan paper mill, which is a high performing and large volume facility that has received significant investment and has a strong future ahead.

Job Responsibility
  • Responsible for entire paper process area as with oversight of at least $100M in EBITDA
  • Leader of Safety, working to achieve 0 injuries
  • Drive an engaged workforce
  • Develop and manage people, recognizing skill gaps, and building these skills within workforce
  • Driving decision making process
  • Work through standard work processes- and develop these processes when required
  • Managing machines, KPIs (as described) and managing centerline of the machine
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining systems
  • Leading salary supervisor audits
  • Managing maintenance system
  • Ultimate Department head and people leader

Essential Skills & Experience Required:

  • Prior experience within paper process area, and with fundamental paper making experience
  • Demonstrated progression and promotion at previous organizations
  • Effective people and team building experience (building skills of operators and supervisors through hiring and training, prioritizing direction of the department and building an organization where confident decision making at every level is encouraged and effective)
  • Demonstrated experience of building true effective systems to manage complex processes (Machine Performance through KPIs, KOPs; Process Settings such as OBG, TCCs, Center lining; Operator Knowledge through Standard Work, Outage Planning and Day to Day Issues/Maintenance
  • Continuous Improvement mindset (Trained in Six Sigma Tools and KT, improving productivity though maintenance of KPIs, pushing culture of team problem solving using CI, KT and A3 tools.
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Drive safety to Zero injuries and support mill transition to safety focused culture
  • Strong Communication Skills (Decisions driven through utilization of data)
  • BS Engineering or equivalent industry operational experience
