Airswift is seeking a Senior Piping Materials Engineer to work with a major petrochemical client in Calgary, AB, on a 4-months assignment.
As a member of the Client’s Engineering Team, the Senior Piping Materials Engineer is responsible for the management, development and maintenance of all Company Corporate Engineering piping material specifications and their associated commodities as well as any piping-related standards such as piping details, pipe support details to ensure successfully project implementation and maintenance of all Company manufacturing facilities. 

This role will also provide technical support to the Company capital project team and manufacturing facilities in addressing piping-related technical issues.

This is a temporary assignment that can work out of the Client's Red Deer Executive Place in Red Deer, AB or out of the head office in Calgary, AB. 


Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Support

  • Develop and maintain corporate piping related standards.  This would include all piping material specifications, including their associated components.
  • Review and approve all piping material specifications, including calculations for code compliance.
  • Manage corporate piping material specification index, cross reference index to legacy piping materials specifications, valve databases, and commodity catalogue databases.
  • Understand of the piping related components and metallurgical considerations as related to various services.
  • Working closely with Company’s Engineering Information Management Team and their Service Provider managing the piping material specifications in SRD database to ensure integrity of the system and timely support for Maintenance and Capital Projects.
  • Ensure the Company’s piping material request (PMR) process is operating smoothly and resolve any issues.
  • Manage priorities within the Company’s Central Engineering Piping Material Discipline
  • Work with Vendors to ensure all components are appropriately specified.
  • Liaise effectively with vendors, EPC personnel, technical experts, procurement, operations and maintenance, and regulators as required.
  • Ensure all piping-related specifications adhere to regional regulatory requirements.
Manufacturing Support
  • Provide formal and informal technical guidance to engineers and other disciplines located at various manufacturing Sites.
  • Provide in-depth technical expertise and consulting to address Responsible Care issues within their area of work and/or across their discipline.
  • Facilitate and orchestrate technical discussions with stakeholders, engineering disciplines, procurement, and vendors to provide solutions for a variety of technical issues.
Project Support
  • Supporting the use and interpretation of Corporate Engineering Standards and Specifications, and adherence during projects
Procurement Support
  • Manage the piping related approved manufacturers lists.
  • Provide technical choices, propose optimizations to reduce cost and lead times
 
Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer status in either Alberta or Ontario
  • Experience with the use and development of piping material specifications in Canada and USA.
  • Thorough understanding and experience with Canadian and Provincial Regulatory requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of all ASME, API, MSS-SP and other standards related to piping material specifications and piping standards.
  • Excellent understanding of valve design and selection. 
  • Experience with Hexagon (Intergraph) piping material data bases
  • Experience with the piping related standard details and pipe supports
  • Experience with SAP would be an asset.
  • Experience developing requisitions and evaluating bids.
  • Must have excellent written skills with experience developing and maintaining written standards.
  • Familiar with key interfacing processes including:
    • Discipline Engineering: Mechanical Static, Materials
    • Engineering Information Management
    • Technical Procurement
    • Maintenance
    • Capital Projects: Major and Sustaining Capital4
