Position Overview
The Process Safety Engineer will perform the day-to-day tasks to support safety engineering activity across the Assets.
Accountabilities
• Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant regulations, company procedures and best practice
• Work proactively with the onshore and offshore teams to provide timely and accurate technical/process safety engineering advice
• Lead / participate in the asset PREVENT2 reviews, provide guidance for improvements and a management overview of the asset PREVENT2 status
• Assure the standard of process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications, e.g. SCRA, HAZID, QRA etc.
• Support & promote the technical/process safety element of the SEMS across the business
• Undertake the role of Performance Standard Owner for nominated Performance Standards
• Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of a process safety reporting system including relevant KPI’s.
• Actively seek areas for safety engineering and process safety improvement and develop sustainable efficient solutions
• Follow and comply with company Golden Rules, Procedures, & Policies and hold others to account to do the same
• Maintain a firm understanding of the threat Cyber Attacks pose in both regular IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology / industrial automation) environments and the potential consequences of such attacks Key Duties
• Provide Technical/Process Safety engineering related information, advice and support
• Participate in Technical/Process Safety related incident investigation so that lessons can be learnt and are effectively communicated across other sites and groups
• Monitor, maintain, review and develop Technical/Process Safety processes and procedures
• Support and participate in Technical/Process Safety audits
• SCRA/ORA review, input and facilitation of Risk Assessments to support decisions
• Preparation of Technical Notes to ensure compliance with Legislative requirements and provide technical justification to resolve Technical/Process safety related issues
• Liaison with the ICP to resolve actions raised at periodic verification visits
• Facilitating and coordinate HAZIDs, Risk Assessments, P&ID reviews, ALARP studies, Major Accident Hazard Screening; ensure that standards for screening / assessment are maintained
• Provide Technical/Process Safety support for Management of Change process, including review of AFA’s, TQ’s, P Forms, and WMS deferrals / Change Requests
• Provide oversight on all activities which impact on Major Accident Hazards
• Promote the use of key processes which support prevention of Major Accident Hazards
• Plan, participate, co-ordinate and provide technical input for Safety Case Thorough Review and COMAH Safety Report reviews
• Support Regulator visits to sites for Technical/Process Safety focus
• Provide Technical/Process Safety input into responses to the Regulator where required (NAI’s, letter items, enforcements etc)
• Prepare and support Safety Case amendments, Material Changes and Combined Operations Notifications submissions
• Facilitate Process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications, e.g. HAZID, QRA etc.
• Monitor compliance with relevant company-wide procedures and standards
• Record, measure and trend analysis of process safety performance in line with KPI’s
• Develop Technical/Process Safety related safety alerts, bulletins and lesson learned
• Deputise for the Technical Process Safety Lead as required Education Attainment & Accreditation
• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent and risk management qualification with considerable technical experience in a similar role
• Post graduate qualification or equivalent in Safety and Reliability Engineering preferred
Professional Skills & Experience
• Well rounded work experience preferred, with significant direct experience in either oil & gas operations or onshore support role closely linked to oil & gas operations
• Previous experience as a technical safety professional in the oil and gas industry
• Knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory regime
