Airswift has been tasked by a major chemical client to seek a Process Safety Engineer to work within their facilities in Monaca, PA for an initial 6-month contract, likely to be extended.
The Process Safety Engineer is a critical position designed to apply technical capabilities toward evaluating potential process safety risks and preventing adverse impacts & incidents. A key focus of this role is to manage process safety assurance to validate that effective process safety systems are being implemented and maintained.
Responsibilities:
  • Support compliance with PSM regulations.
  • Support and help develop Line of Defense (LOD1 and LOD2) process safety assurance programs (HEMP, MoC, SCE, combustible dust).
  • Support the Site HEMP program, including SCE management.
  • Developing training materials, using existing materials as a basis, where applicable, and guidance by others, possibly delivering the training as well, for frontline barrier management; Process Safety Fundamentals; Technical/Process Safety Principles for Non-Process Safety (with particular reference to supporting ERT); New-Joiner Process Safety Induction (HSSE delivery); process safety and barrier thinking, etc.
  • Provide support to the ongoing efforts to develop and implement the safety management systems applicable to pneumatic conveying and product storage systems, where a combustible dust hazard exists – this could include assistance in the development of SPM policies and procedures, liaising with asset staff in the organization of inspections and future scheduling of same, interpreting information from equipment inspections and dust combustion tests, organizing and managing such sampling and testing.
  • Attend daily production coordination meetings, liaise with the asset, and provide feedback/coordination of needs to the wider PSM organization.
Skills and Requirements:
  • 4-year degree in Chemical Engineering preferred but other backgrounds considered
  • 5-10 years of experience in refining, petrochemicals, or upstream industries, experience in operations preferred but strong background in Technical Safety, HEMP, and HAZOP specifically essential.
  • Experience in HEMP studies/risk assessment and the typical process safety activities required in a production organization.
