SMP Project Engineer – FIFO, WA


Our client is in search of a Senior SMP Project Engineer to oversee the successful delivery of a long-term project for a top-tier iron ore client. This role will be offered on a 12-month initial contract on a 2:1 roster flying out of Perth to their facilities in the Pilbara, WA.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Structural Mechanical Piping (SMP) Project Engineer to join our client’s team for a FIFO role on a 2:1 roster on a major iron ore project. In this crucial role, you will serve as the primary technical coordination interface with the end client, ensuring adherence to the approved design basis, regulatory codes and standards. Your responsibilities will include managing and coordinating engineering activities to guarantee safe, efficient, cost-effective, and timely project execution.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) considerations within the team, integrating OHSE requirements into design and procurement processes.
  • Establish, foster, and nurture client relationships, adeptly resolving project issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with Work Package Management Plans (WPMP), contract requirements, and execute an effective change control process.
  • Vigilantly monitor project costs under direct control, forecast final expenses, identify cost trends, and proactively take measures to prevent cost overruns.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the design team, third-party stakeholders, and deliver precise project reports to the Project Manager.
  • Define objectives for the design team and manage inter-discipline interfaces efficiently.
  • Assist in the procurement process, ensuring timely and budget-aligned delivery of goods meeting specifications.

About You:
  • Recognized engineering degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is preferred.
  • Previous technical, practical, and leadership experience in a mining environment.
  • Exceptional teamwork and stakeholder management skills.
