The ideal candidate will be responsible for working in a team to deliver cluster reporting services and ensure the integrity and effectiveness of estimating, cost management with forward-looking information identifying expected cost performance and comparisons against approved Financial Memorandum (FM) targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a point of contact for controls related activity within the cluster
- Deliver the cluster controls, ensuring the controls capability is onboard at the right time/place
- Deliver appropriate stage gate estimates and bases of estimate
- Support the development of stage gate appropriate Financial Memorandums (FMs) with estimating and scheduling norms
- Prepare an integrated Cluster Control Schedule (CCS) and level 1 schedule for the cluster
- Compile the Forecast Final Cost (FFC), cost phasing, variances, and uncertainties for leadership review monthly
- Ensure cluster and programme change and risk impacts are captured in cost and schedule updates (inc. trends)
- Coordinate quarterly financial updates (GFO’s) and internal Cluster Controls verification reviews
- Support the delivery of the Cluster Information Management activities to support the programme
- Manage and accountable for budget releases, purchase orders, journals, accruals, goods receipting invoice payments, asset creation and other related financial data
Essential Experience
- 10+ years’ experience managing Cost Engineering / Cost Control on multi-disciplinary large-scale projects
- Solid, broad-based project experience in the different phases of the projects with an excellent track record of delivery
- Self-motivation and a high level of individual initiative and self-reliance are required
- Ability to interface, influence, and work effectively with members of the Leadership Team
- Bias for simplification and efficiency with focus on fit-for-purpose deliverables that meet the needs of the business
- Strong ability to build teams, partnerships, actively engage and respect contributions of others
- Excellent inter-personal skills and behaviour
- Ability to produce high quality written reports and summary presentations – able to communicate clarity from complexity
- Ability to harness use of digital tools to provide high quality cost management reporting information

Overview
As a leading global provider of engineering, procurement and construction management expertise to the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors we are proud to be in a position to expand our UK team and have partnered with Airswift to support our recruitment plans in 2023.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Construction Engineer to support a major EPCm to design, procure, build and support the commissioning for the Northvolt US2 Battery Gigafactory Project based in Skelleftea, Sweden. The successful individual will be engaged on a PAYE contract basis, with an expected duration of 2-3 years’ work on the project.
Project Background
Our project will establish a large-scale lithium-ion battery factory in the Sweden (the “Battery Factory”). The Battery Factory will manufacture batteries for consumer and industrial products, including electric vehicles and solutions for energy storage systems. The Next Generation Upstream expansion is aimed at increasing the production of Cathode Active Material (CAM) for processing into battery cells in the different Downstream buildings. The first phase of the site is set to produce its first batteries by the end of 2022. The present scope of works concerns the expansion of the site to further enhance the battery production from 16 GWh to 61 GWh. In terms of CAM, the expansion takes the first phase production of 25,800 tonnes per annum to approximately 98,000 tonnes per annum.
Role Outline/ Responsibilities
- Provide Front End Construction input to the Project FEED programme
- Drive the “right to left” delivery model and ensuring all design has sufficient construction input
- Ensuring Execution plan gate criteria readiness and demonstration of mitigation to execution risks
- Review the Contractor’s Quality Assurance & Inspection plans.
- Work with Sub-Contracts Manager on Contractor capability assessments prequalification procedure, development of tender lists and Tender submission reviews.
- Undertakes Modularization studies and pre-assembly opportunities including appropriateness of Pre-assembly versus conventional build.
- Assesses the required site establishment and laydown requirements, developing a specification and layout and input into estimating recoding the basis of assumptions.
- Works with Planning to produce a resourced construction schedule to ensure release of design packages to ensure an efficient smoothly resourced build.
- Develops scaffold and insulation requirements and ensure these are fully costed in estimate.
- Complies with all applicable in country statutory, legal and specific Client requirements and is involved with the HSE Manager in the preparation of the main Construction Health and Safety plan. Ensures that all proposed site construction methods and procedures are safe and adequate in all respect.
- Ensure that the company’s construction methods, procedures and practices are in all respects, particularly those relating to quality assurance, safety, personnel and industrial relations, properly complied with.
- Ensures that the work, the commissioning of and handover of the plant is clear and agreed by the Client’s Representative(s)
- Assesses Construction risks and construction logistics at every stage of design and inputs into HAZID and HAZCON studies.
Experience/Training
- Recognised discipline background.
- Demonstrable experience in similar role
- Knowledge of Construction practices and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of the construction process, its implementation and management.
- Delivery focused with proven experience in achieving Project goals whilst maintaining high standards in HSEQ at all times.
- Detailed understanding of modern planning systems and their use in the execution of Construction as well as Project work scopes.
- Extensive knowledge of HSEQ safe working practices / procedures.
- Able to interface and interact with Management and Client representatives at all levels.
- Methodical work ethic; ensuring consistency in output.
- Capable of working independently
- IT Literate (Excel / Word / PowerPoint etc).
