The chosen individual will be joining an ambitious and dynamic project, you will be part of the GP project team in Ghent as a Project manager. Your experience will be key in supporting the team in handling the delivery on time and within budget of this major project.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the project management of all project delivery tasks on a specific subarea/WBS of our project. Tasks/subarea can be changed during the project.
    • Following areas (not limitative) could be assigned to you:
      • Direct Reduction Plant
      • Material Handling systems
      • Electric Arc Furnace
  • Supporting the business integration team by building up operational and process related knowledge within the scope of the project (such as Direct Reduction Plant)
The role of a project manager in the project is critical to the success of the team and the achievement of project goals. Here are key responsibilities and characteristics associated with the role of a project manager: 
  • Leadership: 
    • Provide clear direction and vision for the team.  
    • Motivate and inspire team members to achieve their best performance as stated by the project delivery manager
  • Communication: 
    • Clearly convey project goals, expectations, and any changes.  
    • Act as a liaison between team members and upper management.
    • Act as a liaison between the Dunkerque and Ghent project team.
  • Task Assignment: 
    • Delegate tasks based on team members' skills and strengths.  
    • Ensure a balanced workload and equitable distribution of responsibilities. 
  • Decision-Making: 
    • Make informed and timely decisions for the benefit of the project.  
    • Involve team members in decision-making when appropriate.  
    • Take responsibility for decisions and their consequences. 
  • Goal Setting: 
    • Collaborate with team members to set clear and achievable goals.  
    • Break down larger project goals into smaller, manageable tasks.  
    • Monitor progress and adjust goals as needed. 
  • Resource Management: 
    • Manage team resources effectively, including time and budget.  
    • Identify and address any resource constraints or challenges and inform/consult the project manager regarding these topics.  
    • Optimize resource allocation for maximum efficiency. 
  • Feedback: 
    • Provide constructive feedback to help team members improve, set clear milestones for the team members to work towards.  
  • Risk Management: 
    • Identify potential risks to the project and develop mitigation strategies in consultation with the project manager.  
    • Anticipate challenges and work proactively to address them.  
    • Keep the team informed about potential risks and changes. 
  • Quality Assurance: 
    • Ensure that work meets quality standards and project requirements.  
    • Conduct regular reviews and inspections to identify and correct issues. 
  • You will coach and train project team members on all aspects of project management.
  • Periodic internal reviews and coordination with stakeholders to address gaps and follow-through resolution.
  • Proactively escalate any project governance issues that are creating a barrier to project delivery in a timely manner and make suggestions for how they might be brought back to plan.
  • Drive continuous process improvements through the project lifecycle, by using lessons learnt and identifying opportunities.
  • Analyse improvement areas identified via maturity assessment, evaluate use cases & prioritize and propose actions.
  • You will support and report to the lead project delivery of the GP project

Role Requirements
  • Master/bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent professional technical education
  • A multi-disciplinary and flexible mindset with a background in mechanics, piping or electro mechanics
  • Experience in working with EPCM or EPC companies
  • Experience in Project Management. Professional certification in PMI, Prince2 or other project management methodologies is an asset
  • Analytical thinker, problem solver, goal oriented, results driven, takes initiative, leadership and attention to detail
  • Effective communicator, with ability to deal ability to proactively deal with senior executives and stakeholders, persuading them to meet deadlines.  
  • Proven people management skills
  • Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus
  • Regular travels to Spain (Madrid, Bilbao) to collaborate with the EPCM
  • Project language is English
  • Project duration 3-4 years
  • Preferred starting date: as soon as possible
  • Main working place is in Ghent ArcelorMittal Belgium
