As a Project Team Lead, you will be responsible for overall project delivery from early study phases through to construction, commissioning and handover to Operations, including Customer relationship, HSE, cost, schedule, quality and other project assurance activities. This role manages and coordinates capital projects at Huntly and Willowdale mines, providing technical direction and leadership for optimal front-end loading.
What you’ll do
The role responsibilities include:
- Delivery of Engineering and Design from early study phases through to detailed design withing approved budget and schedule.
- Proactively execute and manage safety in design initiatives to ensure risks are identified and reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), identify and manage project risks associated with project delivery and asset life through effective processes, resources and communication.
- Drive project development decisions with Customer teams to meet required outcomes, incorporating technical integrity, constructability, operability, HSE and lifecycle cost consideration.
- Proactive interface management, control and communication to ensure all parties are progressing on a common basis and have the data they need to complete the scope of work, proactive ongoing interface with Customer Stakeholders to ensure the required support is provided to the project team, proactive interface with Customer Procurement Team to ensure the deliver the equipment/materials and Contractor services to meet project requirements.
- Coordinate interface issues across the engineering, operations, construction and commissioning.
- Lead the development of installation and commissioning methodologies with Alcoa Constructions and Operations.
- Manage and oversee all aspects of project planning, development, and implementation of the Sustaining Capital Program for Huntly and Willowdale mines areas.
- Participate in workshops with Alcoa stakeholders to identify environmental and safety risk-related projects in the existing Huntly and Willowdale mines areas, establish and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and issues management.
- Provide advice and support to stakeholders (Alcoa Capital management team, Alcoa Operations, Alcoa Global Impoundments, and Engineer of Records) to improve project delivery across all Huntly and Willowdale mines projects.
- Prepare and maintain an overall project management plan for all ongoing/future Huntly and Willowdale projects to achieve project synergies across different Alcoa areas, monitor and evaluate all aspects of project implementation, including risk, quality, and project progress.
- Ensure the right engineering resources are assigned to the project and monitor them throughout the project cycle, ensure the involvement of all key internal and external stakeholders during design reviews with the project engineering team, ensure all key engineering studies, such as FMEA, PEHSR, HAZOP, Constructability, and Value Engineering, are conducted on time.
- Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly summary project status reports for internal management and customers.
- Ensure all material procurement and installation contracts are awarded in a timely manner to achieve committed project schedules.
- Monitor that cash flow is properly maintained by assigned PTLs on projects to avoid any cost overruns.
- Ensure smooth handover of all completed projects at Huntly and Willowdale to the Alcoa operations team, ensure smooth close-out of all sustainable projects at Huntly and Willowdale in Alcoa systems.
- Relevant years of engineering experience, including years of relevant supervisory, project management and/or technical experience; Workshare experience; E, EP project experience.
- Demonstrated PM experience managing small and medium projects or portions of large projects; EPCM, EPC including site assignments.
- Professional registration in the local jurisdiction; Certified Project Management Professional by a globally recognised project management organisation (IPMA, APM, PMI, AIPM).
- Advanced understanding of systems, processes and tools related to the field.
- Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
- Can organise information from many sources and retain it as per the prescribed format and policies.
- Demonstrate full commitment to all health and safety matters and provide safety leader Management to the project team.
- Effectively manage a project team comprising members from various disciplines and locations, set clear target for the project team, including scope, schedule, productivity, and budget targets, ensure proper change control processes are understood and used by the project team.
- Ensure that methodologies, processes, tools, and systems are used throughout the project, and compliance requirements are met.
- Apply knowledge of all aspects of a project (engineering, procurement, quality control, etc.) to oversee the successful execution of the project plan.
- Demonstrate an understanding of engineering project delivery workflow and coordination.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of customer contracts to oversee and manage the project.
- Have a strong understanding and application of business drivers and financial reporting standards.
- Track costs and schedules and use analytical skills to forecast trends, track and analyse project design deliverables and design quantities.
- Understand project cost buildup, including gross margin, understand contract invoice terms and company cash flow requirements, including accounts receivable, work in progress, and days sales outstanding (DSO) metrics.
