We are currently recruiting for a Safety Advisor to join a large-scale construction project based in North Yorkshire, for a contract position until the end of the year with possibility of extension. This will consist of a 7/7 rotation, with holiday and a highly competitive pension contribution.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain a Safety Monitoring Plan aligned with Crop Nutrients Safety Management System.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the Safety Monitoring Plan to monitor, measure, analyse, evaluate and report Safety performance against major hazards, defined objectives and UK regulatory requirements.
- Verify and monitor the implementation & effectiveness of critical controls.
- Monitor compliance and identify opportunities to improve Safety performance.
- Evaluate performance against Safety compliance obligations including UK regulatory requirements and share with internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Ensure that Safety compliance gaps are assessed for severity and reported to management with proposed action plans for approval.
- Implement Safety Assurance programs to ensure that Company and contractors are compliant with regulatory.
- Take ownership of projects relating to the integration of Group Safety systems and processes
- Support the development of, and ultimately implement, a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the teams that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity
- Act as a role model and actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
- Implement effective team leader and team member processes.
- Set clear and consistent expectations, encourage teams to challenge the status quo and strive for improvements.
- Ensure that the discipline specific systems, symbols and behaviours reinforce desired culture and align with values.
- Lead day to day communications with teams.
- Provide input for draft of communication materials, understand the operation's goals and directions.
- Manage compliance of the teams within work area with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) local requirements as a minimum level of site performance
- Adhere to compliance requirements and ensure compliance of teams within work area
- Manage adherence to compliance governance within the teams
- Conduct site inspections to identify and escalate non-compliance
- Use systems to monitor compliance & manage non-compliance
- Participate in audit
- Attend close-outs for audits findings within discipline, support audits
- Conduct investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) within work area
- Visit site of incidents as part of investigation
- Follow appropriate process and establish root cause
- Investigate and escalate incidents in proper and timely fashion
- Close out incidents, capture and implement learnings
- Share learnings across teams
Skills / Qualifications
- Significant experience in a similar Safety role.
- Hold a recognised health and safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent.
- Knowledge of incident investigation, analysis and reporting (RCA, TapRoot, TriPod, Kelvin TOP-SET).
- Experience working within & Developing Safety management systems..
- Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - Excel and Word is essential.
- Experience with HAZID/HAZOP processes
- High hazard industry experience is required along with good awareness/audit experience of OHSAS 18001/OHSAS 45001
- Previous experience of developing and maintaining safety management systems/competence management systems
- Analytically minded and capable of developing clear and meaningful reports
- Ability to produce Safety procedures based on project risks and develop implementation plans
- Clear communicator, diligent, self-motivator and team player
- Exceptional written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
