Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to work within their facilities located in Perth.


Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Start Date: Negotiable (typically within 1 month notice)

Duration: 12 months contract

Location: Perth, Australia

Working Schedule: Monday - Friday (40 hours work week)


As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will undertake engineering design for multiple brownfield projects in the Oil&Gas sector. The role will also require the engineer to have the ability to support throughout the lifecycle of phases from order of magnitude through to execution depending on the project scope. All engineers are expected to be supporting design, other team members and be able to technically peer review deliverables as per their technical strengths. As a senior engineer, you will be the lead on your own projects and with the direction of the engineering team lead, call upon other resources as required to meet the requirements of both schedule and budget.


  • Deliver discipline specific engineering services that meet the Company, the client’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide specialist technical direction and advice to the discipline, discipline team and project teams as required by position.
  • Undertake engineering design and technical verification of discipline project deliverables by others.
  • Perform discipline specific engineering services such as:
    • prepare/assist and as required oversee the production of engineering calculations, drawings and documentation.
    • ensure all deliverables are checked in accordance with the Company checking procedures.
    • attend site visits as required.
    • undertake discipline safety in design risk assessment for each project.
    • participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety in design workshops.
    • initiate, manage, and supervise, engineering assignments with the team; manage coordination and technical integrity on a regular basis as required to effectively deliver engineering services.
  • Assist in scoping engineering requirements, methodologies and estimating engineering budget for competitive proposals in response to requests for quotations from clients.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the project stakeholders/team including the Lead Discipline Engineer, team and Project Engineer/Manager on design progress, budget, technical matters, quality and resource planning.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships within the electrical discipline team, other parts of the Company, with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Identify issues and problems; develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with contractors, clients and other the Company personnel; build relationships to grow the business and networks within the Company.


Job Specific Competencies:

  • Highly effective people management skills such as leadership, team, interpersonal, coaching, mentoring and supervisory skills. Must be able to build, motivate, develop and manage an effective team.
  • Highly effective management skills including the ability to plan, set goals; and manage time, priorities, resources, accountabilities, schedules, and cost.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to convey information and ideas to individuals and groups.
  • Proven experience in managing large portfolios with >10 discipline personnel.
  • Able to visit remote locations for short periods of time.


  • A recognised Bachelor qualification in the relevant discipline (essential),
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status (preferred),
  • Minimum 10 years brownfield sustaining capital projects in the Oil and Gas industry (essential),
  • Experience across all phases of engineering projects from feasibility/conceptual studies through to detailed design and execution (essential),
  • High degree of competency and proven experience in power system modelling and protection studies (ETAP essential)
  • Hazardous Area Accreditation (essential),
  • Functional Safety Accreditation (preferable),
  • Good understanding and experience in:
    • Brownfield interfacing
    • HV and LV systems
    • Control and instrumentation system interfacing
    • Electrical calculations required for design
    • System studies, protection, earthing, arc flash, lightning
    • Design drawings such as SLDs, schematics, terminations, schedules
    • Site experience such as scoping solutions, condition assessments, punch listing, construction and commissioning
    • Equipment inspections, witnessing FATs, SATs
    • Preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement and construction scope of works
    • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules
    • Shutdown planning
