Our client seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to be based in the Kwinana region of Perth. This is an opportunity to be near home, show case your skills and be home every night. Initial contract of 12 months BUT an opportunity to work with a major player in the mining sector!!!


Key Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver discipline specific engineering services that meet the client’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. 
  • Undertake engineering design and technical verification (as required) of discipline project deliverables by others.
  • Undertake tasks on time and within budget 
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with project stakeholders etc
  • Establish and maintain relationships with all levels within the business 
  • Assist in scoping engineering requirements, methodologies and estimating engineering budget
  • Have full understanding and ability to preform specific engineering design LV/MV, instrumentation and PLC electrical equipment; Brownfields interfaces  
  • Perform and/or manage discipline specific engineering services such as:  
  1. Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes to scope comply with project change management processes; 
  2. Prepare/assist or oversee the production of engineering calculations, drawings and documentation; 
  3. Ensure all deliverables are checked in accordance with the clients checking procedures;
  4. Ensure a safe and sustainable engineering design considering constructability, operability and maintainability
  5. Attend site visits where required; and 
  6. Participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety in design workshops as required

Necessary Skills

  1. Creation of P&IDs, electrical drawings (single line diagrams / schematics / MCCs etc) & Instrumentation (loop diagrams / layouts / terminations etc)
  2. LV electrical system design and calculations (e.g. CB ratings / trip settings / cable sizing / voltage drop calculations / max demand calculations)
  3. Equipment sizing, cable routing, equipment layouts, lighting design, earthing design, arc flash requirements and HV switchgear and MCC design.
  4. Control system interfacing and instrumentation.
  5. Preparation / checking of process instrument datasheet
  6. Any other electrical calculations required for design.
  7. Protection systems and relay settings (overcurrent, earth fault, motors, VSDs).
  8. Site experience such as scoping solutions, equipment inspections, construction and commissioning.
  9. Witnessing and inspection of equipment during FATs, SATs.
  10. Preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement requisitions and construction scope of works packages.
  • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules.
  • Understanding of shutdown planning
  • Experience / awareness of PLC / SCADA/DCS systems hardware & software
  • Exposure to field instrumentation / field verification
  • Understanding of project phases and level of design required from concept through to execution
  • Ability to identify and report changes to project scope
  • Package up work packs for workshare implementation (As required).
  • Technical support to junior engineers

To be considered for this role you must have; 

  • 8+ years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer 
  • Electrical and Instrumentation design experience in the Refinery/Mining Industry, or similar (essential)
  • Experience in Brownfield electrical systems modifications (LV/MV/HV) and instrumentation (essential)
  • Good understanding of Australian electrical standards (essential)
  • Be able to work effectively and efficiently with little supervision (essential)
  • Pro-active with excellent attention to detail (essential)
  • Able to work on multiple projects of various size and complexity (essential)
  • Knowledge of brownfield sites and interfaces (essential)
