The Senior Electrical Engineer is a member of the Capital Projects Group (CPG) and reports directly to the CPG Engineering Manager. The Senior Electrical Engineer is primarily accountable for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) of Engineering Deliverables by the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor beginning with Detailed Design through Commissioning and Startup.
This role is also accountable for ensuring company Capital Projects Electrical System design meets or exceeds contractual and regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The complexity of the electrical power systems in both the Liquefaction (LQF) and Pretreatment (PTF) Facilities requires a high level of experience and technical expertise to provide assurance of electrical design deliverables along with proper QA/QC of procurement, installation and construction of electrical systems.
Candidates should have an understanding of Electrical subject matter relevant to company LQF and PTF facilities, such as Power System Modeling, Power System Harmonics, working and interfacing with Utilities, High Voltage (HV) Substations, HV Transmission Lines, HV Cables, HV Gas Insulated Circuit Breakers, HV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Load Commutated Inverter (LCI) Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Synchronous Motors, Harmonic Filters, Power System Protection, Power Management and Control System (PMCS), Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) Distribution Switchgear, Power, Distribution and Lighting Transformers, Essential Generators, Lighting, and DC systems.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Review and comment on Specifications and Data Sheets
- Review and comment on Detailed Design Deliverables
- Review and comment on Procurement Packages
- Review and comment on Supplier Document Deliverables
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) of Electrical Systems (infrequent domestic and international travel should be expected)
- Participate in Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) of Electrical Systems
- Review and comment on Power System Study reports consisting of Short Circuit Protection, Arc-Flash, Load Flow
- Review and comment on Protection Schemes, Equipment Ratings, and Protection documents
- Review and comment on Hazardous Area Classification documentation
- Provide support to Regulatory Team for electrical issues
- Coordinate SAFOP (eHAZOP) of Electrical System during the design phase
- Manage resolution of SAFOP follow-up activities by EPC and Freeport LNG
- Participate in HAZOPs and HAZIDs as required?
Essential Functions
- Provide Engineering Assurance of EPC design deliverables
- Provide ?over the shoulder? review of EPC deliverables as necessary/required
- Participate in Design Review meetings with EPC
- Participate in Problem Resolution meetings with EPC
- Review and comment on Change Order Requests by EPC
- Participate in meetings with CenterPoint Energy regarding grid configuration, future changes, and interaction with grid equipment
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
Minimum Experience:
- 10+ years direct experience with HV and MV electrical power systems, HV Cable Systems, VFDs, Synchronous Motors, and application and programming of Protective Relays
- Proficiency with ANSI/NEMA equipment requirements, National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E and Safety in Design
Preferred Experience:
- 15+ years? experience with HV and MV electrical power systems and specifically HV Cable Systems, HV Gas Insulated Circuit Breakers, HV Air Insulated Switchyard Equipment, HV Gas Insulated Switchgear, Harmonics, application of Harmonic Filters, Essential Generators, application and programming of Protective Relays, Illumination Systems, Grounding, Ground Potential Rise, Lightning Protection, Bonding
- Experience in Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) equipment.
