The company / project 
Our client is a leading EPCM in the mining industry, recognised for delivering large-scale projects that set industry benchmarks. They are currently engaged in a major mining project, requiring the expertise of a Senior Electrical Engineer with PES and OoM Studies experience. You must have proven engineering design experience on expansion projects for iron ore clients at varying stages of the project lifecycle is required.


The role 
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible to uphold technical integrity and meet the technical competencies required to guide and support the wider discipline and deliver technically sound solutions to our clients. 

What you’ll do
  • Deliver discipline specific engineering services that meet the client’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  
  • Undertake and/or support engineering design and technical verification of discipline project deliverables by others.
  • Proactively seek an understanding of the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant or structure, be responsible for action and close out where relevant.
  • Perform and/or manage discipline specific engineering services such as:  
    • Prepare/assist and as required oversee the production of engineering calculations, drawings and documentation.  
    • Ensure all deliverables are checked in accordance with checking procedures.
    • Attend site visits as required, facilitate and/or contribute to discipline Safety in Design risk assessment for each project.
    • Participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety in design workshops.
    • Initiate, manage and supervise, engineering assignments with the head office team and Workshare team.
  • Prepare engineering estimates for the electrical discipline in response to requests for quotation:
    • Scope engineering requirements, detail methodologies and/or engineering tasks.
    • Clarify and detail assumptions, exclusions, rely upon information and deliverables list.
    • Input into the schedule incorporating a realistic delivery sequence for the discipline with consideration to project milestones; input from other disciplines and receival of rely on information; and ascertaining resources required based on availability.
  • Establish relationship and manage packages and/or interfacing with installation contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, site team and client.
  • Champion the reviewing and checking process to ensure technical integrity of all deliverables are met; delivering projects following the clients process
  • Produce high quality well-structured and coherent technical reports documenting study findings, results, and recommendations.
  • Where required, prepare or assist in the preparation of project documentation such as budgets, estimates, forecasts, schedules, and reports.  
  • Direct and coordinate the workshare electrical engineers, designers and technical personnel in the execution of the project plus provide technical guidance (as required). 

What you’ll have
  • Relevant years of experience in engineering design with strong technical capabilities, experienced on iron ore projects or similar with majority of recent experience on Australian projects.
  • An Australian recognised Bachelor qualification in Electrical and or Power Engineering.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, Functional Safety TUV Certification will be preferred, Hazardous Area Accreditation (or good understanding in design of).
  • Experience across phases of engineering projects from order of magnitude, conceptual, feasibility through to detailed design and execution and full understanding of deliverables required.
  • Strong technical experience in:
    • Engineering for the whole project lifecycle.
    • Brownfield interfaces.
    • HV and LV systems, AC and DC systems.
    • Power distribution.
    • Electrical calculations required for design, Earthing, arc flash and lightning studies and design.
    • Power system studies (inc. load flow, fault level voltage and motor starting analysis) and protection coordination.
    • Creation of design drawings such as SLDs, schematics, terminations, schedules, layouts.
    • Site experience such as scoping solutions, condition assessments, construction, and commissioning.
    • Particularly good understanding of constructability, maintainability, and operability aspects along with that preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement, and construction scope of works.
    • Equipment inspections, witnessing FATs, SATs.
    • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules for FID, control system interfacing and instrumentation Shutdown planning.
  • Highly effective organisational skills including the ability to plan, set goals, prioritise, set accountabilities, manage schedule and budget, with effective verbal and written communication skills is a must including the ability to convey information and ideas to individuals and groups and effective technical document writing and grammar skills.
  • Strong ability to work autonomously and as part of the team, a keen eye for detail, and a focus on quality and performance, empowered to make responsible decisions.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, some with short delivery timeframes, works with self-initiated interaction with supervisor and self-initiated technical guidance.
  • Strong ability to inform and persuade on complex matters through preparation and delivery of clear and concise presentations and reports, as well as collaboration with stakeholders and management.
  • Achieves results set by self and others, meets timelines, pushes to achieve stretch goals, and demonstrates enthusiasm, persistence, and tenacity. Breaks down work into executable tasks. Acts accountable for work produced and ensures it is "right the first time.”
