The role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our client’s team in Perth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and overseeing the production of detailed designs, including deliverables like drawings, specifications, scopes of work, calculations, technical reports, datasheets, tender documentation, requisitions, estimates, budgets, and schedules for scope variations and technical queries.
- Conducting appropriate studies, analyses, and recommending suitable actions based on options evaluation.
- Undertaking and/or reviewing system studies, protection coordination, arc flash hazard assessments, and defining mitigating solutions.
- Conducting tender bid evaluations.
- Providing input and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Participating in relevant meetings, preparing progress reports, and adhering to required checking procedures.
- Interfacing with or managing various electrical vendors, packages, contractors, and control systems to ensure alignment and technical compliance.
- Driving efficiency in the delivery of electrical design packages, ensuring they are ready for execution.
- Interpreting and applying technical standards.
- Performing technical verification of project deliverables created by others in the team.
- Supporting the electrical team, including mentoring younger engineers and graduates.
- Liaising with other disciplines to ensure clear design interfaces.
- Upholding the change management process and ensuring project compliance with systems, policies, processes, procedures, and standards, as well as statutory and regulatory requirements and the project scope of work.
- Preparing or assisting in the preparation of project documentation such as budgets, estimates, forecasts, schedules, and reports as needed.
- Directing and coordinating home office and workshare electrical engineers, designers, and technical personnel in project execution, providing technical guidance when required.
- Participating and contributing to project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, and safety-in-design workshops.
- Communicating effectively and regularly with the Lead Engineer, Lead Designer, and electrical team, including the Workshare team, on design, deliverables, and technical matters.
What you'll need to succeed
- A recognised Bachelor qualification in the relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in the oil and gas (or closely allied) industry (essential) – Preference for EPC/EPCM contractors/consultants.
- Experience across all phases of engineering projects from feasibility/conceptual studies through to detailed design and execution (essential).
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status (beneficial).
- Hazardous Area Accreditation (highly preferable).
- Functional Safety Accreditation (preferable)
- Good understanding and proven experience in:
- Brownfield interfacing.
- Multiple package interfacing.
- HV and LV systems.
- Arc flash hazard analysis and design of mitigation methods.
- System studies, protection coordination and design of protection systems.
- Switchgear, protection, generation and power reticulation.
- Control system interfacing and instrumentation.
- Site experience in construction and commissioning.
- Equipment inspections, FATs, SATs.
- Preparing ITPs, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement, tender documentation and scope of works.
- Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules.
- Shutdown planning.
