Senior Document Controller (Aconex) – LNG Brunsbüttel Project

Location: Brunsbüttel, Germany (On-site, full-time)
Contract Duration: 12-month minimum (extension likely)
Contract Type: Agency Contract via Airswift
Start Date: ASAP
Languages: Fluent English required; German proficiency strongly preferred

About the Project

This role supports one of Germany’s most strategically significant infrastructure projects — the LNG Brunsbüttel Terminal, a critical part of the country’s efforts to ensure energy independence and diversify natural gas imports. The terminal, located at the mouth of the Elbe River, comprises a floating LNG terminal (operational since 2023) and the construction of a permanent onshore facility, due for completion in 2027.

You will join the project in its second phase, during which a permanent onshore terminal and jetty infrastructure are being constructed. Our client, a globally recognized EPCm (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) contractor, is delivering the full suite of engineering and construction services.

As Senior Document Controller, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the project’s technical documentation, workflows, and communication meet the highest standards of compliance, traceability, and transparency.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Senior Document Controller to manage all document control processes on this major infrastructure project. You will oversee the setup, implementation, and continuous operation of Aconex as the project's central document control platform, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards while facilitating timely document exchange across a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup and administration of the project’s document control system in Aconex, including user access, workflows, and protocols.

  • Prepare project-specific Document Control Procedures, document numbering systems, and file-naming conventions in alignment with client and contractor requirements.

  • Govern the exchange, storage, and retrieval of all project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and correspondence.

  • Provide training and support to internal team members, subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives on Aconex usage and document management procedures.

  • Track and report on document status, deliverables, and overdue items, maintaining accountability across disciplines.

  • Maintain version control and ensure traceability of document revisions throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Facilitate daily document reviews and interface closely with engineering, construction, procurement, HSE, and commissioning teams.

  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the client’s document management team.

  • Supervise junior document control staff as needed and ensure overall compliance with data governance principles.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Document Control roles within EPCm environments or large-scale construction/industrial projects.

  • Proven experience working with Aconex on major capital projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of document lifecycle workflows, versioning, and control procedures.

  • Strong command of English (written and verbal); German language skills are a plus.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Experience leading or mentoring document control teams is an advantage.

  • EU citizenship or valid work authorization for Germany is required.
