Our client is seeking a Telecommunications Design Engineer to work within their facilities located in Perth, Australia.

 

The Company

A blue-chip company in the technology sector. With several upgrade projects currently underway in their resource’s portfolio, they are looking for Telecommunications Design Engineer to assist with this.

 

The Role

As a Telecommunications Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing communication systems and solutions tailored to the specific needs of our Oil & Gas projects in Perth. Your expertise will be crucial in developing reliable, efficient, and secure communication networks that enhance productivity, safety, and collaboration among our teams. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate communication technologies into complex infrastructures while adhering to industry standards and best practices.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, multi-tasker, and demonstrated team-player. You will work in the program team to assist with analysis and development of scopes of work, designs, documentation specific to oil/gas operating assets, and taking life-cycle ownership of the Management of Change (MOC) and Digital Change processes. The artefacts, MOC entries, and Digital Changes created will support engineering, implementation, commissioning, and close-out of planned works.

This is a Perth based 12-months contracting opportunity with strong likelihood for extension.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop Communication System Designs: Analyze project requirements and collaborate with stakeholders to design communication systems that meet the needs of Oil & Gas operations. This includes radio networks, satellite communication, fiber optics, data networks, telephony, CCTV, and other related technologies.
  • Conduct Feasibility Studies: Assess the feasibility of implementing different communication solutions, considering factors such as cost, technical viability, scalability, and compatibility with existing infrastructure.
  • Prepare Technical Specifications: Create comprehensive technical specifications and engineering documents for communication systems, ensuring adherence to project requirements, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate communication systems seamlessly with other project components, such as SCADA, control systems, and automation.
  • Perform System Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing and validation of communication designs to verify performance, security, and reliability, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Support Procurement and Vendor Management: Collaborate with procurement teams to identify suitable vendors and equipment for communication projects, evaluating bids and managing vendor relationships.
  • Stay Abreast of Industry Trends: Keep updated with the latest advancements in communication technologies, standards, and best practices, applying relevant knowledge to improve project outcomes.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer expertise and support to operational teams during the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting phases of communication systems.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all communication designs and installations comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and relevant industry guidelines.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Communications Design Engineer, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Previous experience in project management.
  • Strong knowledge of communication systems, including radio networks, satellite communication, fiber optics, RF, RAN, data networks, and related protocols.
  • Proficiency in design and simulation tools like AutoCAD, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, control systems, and industrial automation is advantageous.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from conception to implementation.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing project requirements and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Project Engineering experience in Networks and/or Telecommunications.
  • Proven Stakeholders Management experience.
  • Perth-based with Australian Full working rights.

 

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification or equivalent is essential.
