Transmission Line Principal Engineer

Airswift is seeking a REMOTE Transmission Line Principal Engineer on an initial 1-year contract basis. This position is responsible for the management of design for assigned transmission generation tie lines for Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage, and for stand-alone transmission line projects. The Principal Engineer works in the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group and is responsible for transmission line projects from conception (Early-Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution). The position requires coordination with other groups to ensure the projects are successful. The candidate for this position will be generally responsible for representing E&C’s internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefing on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.

In the conceptual phase, the Principal Engineer works with the Early-Stage Project Manager to define and influence the project requirements and scope with the Development Group. Projects can begin as FERC 1000 competitive transmission project proposals, or as greenfield projects for affiliates.
The Principal Engineer must secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids and awarding work through the Company’s Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
The Principal Engineer must coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a route and secure the data and permits needed to design and build the line, including geotechnical data and lidar data. Activities include competitively sourcing, selecting and contracting geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, and supporting the cost estimating team with scope assumptions.
The Principal Engineer is responsible for coordinating the engineering deliverables in support of competitive proposals, as well as design and construction of projects. Deliverables include Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction, and As-built drawings, design criteria, and contributions to proposal documents.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering.
Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of High Voltage Transmission line projects.
Must have a strong knowledge of transmission design, excellent communication and project management skills, a bias for action, proven analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to provide value engineering and ensure design quality.
Technical competence such as the ability to understand one line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan and profiles and other common deliverables.
Travel required within North America.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action. PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is a plus.
Proficiency with standard industry tools such as PLSCADD, Auto-CAD, Primavera and other software is strongly desired.

Qualifications:

Proficient in obtaining local, state, and federal environmental permits including erosion and sediment & erosion control plans and Army Corps of Engineers US 404/401 permits.
Knowledge AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS
Ten years of experience supporting site civil and/or land development environmental permitting within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
Experience preparing erosion control plan drawings, stormwater permits, and obtaining plan approval from NC DEQ/ SC DHEC.
Excellent negotiating skills with regulators and the public regarding the environmental permitting of land development projects.

Our client is seeking a Project Manager to work within their facilities located in Plainfield, IN, for a 12-month assignment.

The Project Manager will be under the general direction of a Sr. Project Manager. This position is responsible for the management of all phases of project planning and execution to ensure all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. In addition, this position is highly involved in the funding management and budgeting of the project / program responsible. This position will work directly with a full project team daily that includes Project Controls, Construction Management, Engineering, Real Estate, Environmental, Permitting & Community/Public Engagement. This position typically will be assigned projects classified as “Green” per the Project Management Center of Excellence Project Profile Matrix. Structure, lead, and/or assist in leading all project related meetings and reports required to ensure open communication between all team members, key stakeholders, and management (regular project reviews, kickoff meetings, weekly reports & monthly reports) and to properly report project status.
Assure that Project Plan, all appropriate reports, and reporting means are developed and managed according to PMCoE Standards.
Drive the process of project planning including scope definition, estimating, schedule formation and monitoring, cost control measures, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment selection, vendor selection, start-up and commissioning plans, and integration processes.
Execute activities like scope definition, detailed design, construction, start-up and commissioning, turnover to operations, and warranty management.
Manage all matrixed members of the team daily and is assure all project deliverables (KPIs) are being met.

Education/Experience:

Develop instructional materials and conduct training for the INPO Accredited Initial License Training program at North Anna Power Station. A candidate for this position should have in-depth knowledge of INPO accredited instructional design theory as well as teaching operators’ knowledge, skills, and abilities required to become licensed operators. This individual is responsible for maintaining training programs in accordance with nuclear industry, regulatory, institutions, and legal requirements.
