Brief job description:

The Senior Workshop Technician - Electrical is responsible for the execution of specific tasks either project related or individual manufactures, refurbishments and testing etc. as well as other tasks for which you are competent in a safe conscientious manner.


Key responsibilities and main tasks:

• Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in the respective work areas.
• Look after the company’s interest at all times.
• Maintain strict confidentiality on all matters relating to company business.
• Installation of neat control panel wiring and field installations, work to be of good integrity and in accordance with current legislation and good working practices.
• To be fully conversant with the inspection, testing and certification of Electrical Installations and recording of all results in accordance with current legislation.
• To be fully conversant with the electrical installations in hazardous areas in accordance with BS EN 60079-14.
• To be fully conversant with the inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in hazardous areas in accordance with BS EN 60079-17.
• Portable appliance testing, (PAT), of all appliances that are used by SMS employees in accordance with "Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment".
• Installation and testing of plugs / cables etc. as required on SMS test equipment.
• To complete AM/ME work as required
• Be utilised for offshore work (preferable)
• Be available to travel at short notice (reasonable notification given)
• Assist project engineers with laying out cable tray runs and sizing of cable tray at the design phase of the build, thus reducing the amount of on-site fabrication work.
• System FAT and function testing of hydraulic / pneumatic / electrical control panels and assisting supervisors with fault finding.
• Inspection, maintenance and repair of workshop assets, including but not limited to flushing skids.


• The ability to represent the correct image and profile of the company to employees, suppliers, client and end user alike.
• Training of apprentices and trainees in good electrical installation practices and testing techniques.
• Detailed completion of project close out reports / documentation / certification and ensuring that said documentation is passed to the supervisor or engineer, signed, dated and identified correctly for invoicing and certification data packs.
• To be able to work under one’s own initiative or as part of a team.
• To have the ability to communicate effectively and offer sound technical advice to both internal and external clients for SMS projects and operational activities.
• The ability to complete client work orders, permits, timesheets etc. correctly and to the satisfaction of SMS, the client and the end user.
• Promote and behave in a way consistent with the Organisation’s Vision and Values.
• Develop own knowledge and skills and contribute to the development of others and contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, controls and services to support the overall business objectives.
• Other duties within the general scope of the post and appropriate to the Job Function as may be required from time to time.

• Follow SMS, and where appropriate Client’s, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Policies and Safety Management Systems.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, and lead by example to ensure company goals are achieved and exceeded


The experience shall include:

• Electrotechnical NVQ Level 3
• C&G 2391
• CompEx certified
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build positive relationships, and work collaboratively, across the business.
• Good organisational skills with an ability to manage own workload and priorities to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good level of interpersonal skills
• Resilient and calm under pressure
• Reading and understanding electrical drawings
• Electrical Panel layout & wiring
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the mechanical/hydraulic trade
• Knowledge of MS Office

Desirable:
• HNC Electrical Engineering
• BS7671
• Hold offshore ticket
