One of our Oil and Gas clients is seeking an Environmental/Regulatory Advisor to join their team on a contract until the end of the year in Calgary or Cold Lake, AB.
Responsibilities:
- Work with site based E&R team to oversee the preparation and implementation of the site Environmental Management Plan (EMP)
- Deliver day-to-day support for E&R programs such as waste, noise, spills prevention and response, and air management
- Providing ongoing technical support to the operating unit on various E&R activities (spill clean ups, waste management, wildlife, etc.)
- Support the development, implementation and surveillance of compliance programs including plans, procedures and training
- Communicate and provide immediate notifications (i.e. spill, flaring, etc.) to governmental agencies
- Recommend appropriate environmental and/or socioeconomic issues/impacts avoidance/mitigation measures and oversee their implementation
- Interface with operations teams to ensure that the company's environmental and socioeconomic requirements/standards are implemented
- Support E&R team and operations with government agency inspections, and any follow-up request from inspections
- Provide guidance to the operation related to overall regulatory compliance and E&R performance as required by applicable regulatory requirements, and/or project obligations and commitments
- Conduct routine inspections/assessments of work sites regarding E&R matters
- Investigate, record, and report identified E&R compliance initiatives and non-compliance situations regarding E&R matters
- Ensure the proper and timely completion and submission of E&R deliverables internally and externally to government agencies (i.e. spill reports, inspection reports, etc.)
- Obtain identified regulatory permits/licenses/approvals in a timely manner; track/steward approvals process and compliance status
- Prepare internal E&R and compliance stewardship reports (i.e. spills analysis, environmental stewardship data and key performance indicators)
- Coordinate the activities and review reports from environmental technical experts hired to undertake specific E&R-related tasks
- Provide technical advice by leading implementation of appropriate E&R practices including impact avoidance and mitigation measures for an operating facility
- Coordinate, participate, and lead environmental or regulatory training/awareness sessions for the site
- Assist the E&R Team, as appropriate, regarding special tasks, studies and reports related to overall E&R topics and regulatory compliance requirements regarding environmental matters (i.e. spills, vegetation, soil, water, etc.)
Skills and Qualifications:
- Applicants must possess a University degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences (e.g., anthropology, sociology), Engineering or some other technical field related to E&R management regarding environmental and/or socioeconomic
- Candidates should have experience regarding the environmental and/or socioeconomic field(s) preferably related to a construction or extractive industry operation
- Knowledge of Alberta, specifically Alberta Energy Regulatory desirable
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills required
- Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, some supervisory/organizational talents, and proven ability to work in a positive team manner
- Candidate should be adaptable to work assignments and task, as they could change day to day
Preferred:
- Experience in pipeline licensing support related to new construction and various amendments applicable to existing pipelines in the upstream
- Knowledge and experience with oil and gas waste support and TDG
