About the role

Our client are looking for a Project Engineer to join their Perth team, offering both technical work and site-based exposure.

 

Position: Project Engineer

Location: Perth, WA

Duration: 12-months casual contract

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience in Project Management / Business / Engineering / Trade.
  • Relevant years of experience in project/ contract management, engineering and construction environment, and tertiary qualifications in Engineering, or related field.
  • An understanding of decommissioning/demolition/site remediation.
  • Ability to look beyond the immediate realm to consider wider context and possibilities, now and for the future while being able to challenge, lead change, make bold decisions, and effectively navigate risk.
  • A flexible approach and the ability to influence and motivate others, and a drive to get things done and see them through to completion.

 

Projects Involved:

Fuel Oil Bulk Storage (FOBS) 5 & 6

  • Project engineering support for the FOBS 5&6 project. Decommissioning, demolition, remediation of two redundant fuel oil bulk storage tanks (currently contain 4 million litres of diesel). Remediation of the site.
  • Decommissioning of electrical system (minor), truck unloading station, firewater pipework, oily water drainage system.

Phase 6 & 7 Kwinana Power Station Rehab

  • Project engineering support for the demolition and remediation of the retired coal-fired power station. Assist with brownfields engineering challenges and managing a demolition contractor.
  • Deconstruction of two chimney stacks using a bespoke mast climber system. Although these projects are effectively managed by the contractor, Synergy’s level of involvement is high and requires our engineering/safety due diligence.

 

Responsibilities

  • Adopt key measures of success within the wider project framework: Health, safety & environment - Zero harm (Safety), Schedule - On time, Cost - On budget, Quality - Meeting specification, Interface – meeting stakeholder expectations.
  • Maintain regular communications with operational stakeholders on matters impacting site access and contract works, also support wider project development and delivery team in shaping nominated contract works, including developing scope to meet technical requirements, contracting approach, tender evaluation and administering contract.
  • Support Project Manager and wider owner’s site team during decommissioning, demolition, site remediation phases. Facilitate contractor works to maintain focus on schedule, managing interface and milestone dates with predecessor, concurrent and successor works.
  • Work closely with Construction Manager to ensure safe methodologies, delivery and manage execution risks while implementing and maintaining governance of the key contract package within the project - including monitoring and reporting, financials transactions, execution of project plans and performance.
  • Support Project Manager in discharge of duties maintaining safety of project team employees and project personnel in accordance with relevant legislation and Synergy’s HSE policies and procedures and ensure contractors are managed in accordance with the project health, safety and environment management plan.
  • Identify and mitigate contract package risks including wider project risk to avoid incidents, delays, cost overruns and develop and maintain risk registers as they apply to nominated contract package and its interface with associated works in achievement of project goals inclusive of safety, health, environment, quality, schedule, costs, and reputation.
  • Follow regulatory and legal obligations related to contract package works and ensure compliance.
