Position Title: Automation Technician
Department: Maintenance and Asset Integrity – Alaska
Reports To: Automation Supervisor
Job Summary
The Automation Technician will assist in the design, will install and troubleshoot automation equipment and oversee instrumentation and control systems that sense, measure, and run operational processes within the Oooguruk Production/Utility Module. The technician will be Supporting the Automation Engineer with day to day troubleshooting of the DCS, stand-alone PLCs and other control systems as needed.
Essential Job Functions
· Diagnosis and repair automation and control Equipment of various types, including but not limited to DCS input/output modules, stand-alone PLC systems and associated communication equipment.
· Programming of PLC and DCS to support newly installed equipment as needed.
· Performs preventative, planned and unplanned maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on control systems, in both the office and field locations.
· Conduct routine preventative maintenance of automation and control equipment.
· Ensuring field devices, instrumentation systems, communication networks, data management and interfaces work properly.
· Execute software changes / modifications based on MOC needs and per Automaton Engineers instructions.
· In the event the Automation Supervisor is absent, fills in doing daily planning, PM scheduling and prioritizing tasks.
· Training, development and mentoring of the maintenance team.
· Consults with vendors on the design and installation of new equipment.
· Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
· Ability to problem solve, provide leadership and strategic direction of corporate initiatives.
· Proven troubleshooting, problem solving and investigational skills.
· Skill in measurement, analysis, and continuous improvement in engineering organizations.
· Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and representatives of other organizations.
· Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
· Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
Other Duties:
· Flow measurement: Responsible for oil and gas sales metering.
Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licences, Registrations:
· Valid Driver’s License
· Automation Technician desire an associate degree from a technical school, an accredited college or university in a discipline such as:
o Computer Technician
o Electrical Technician
o Instrument Technician
· Familiar with SIS systems and SIL rating
· 5+ years control system experience preferred
· International Society of Automation (ISA) certification is considered an asset
· Preferred experience with Delta V, PLC and SIS applications
· To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess good prior leadership experience on production facilities and possess good organizational and communication skills.
· Be familiar with State of Alaska codes as applicable to production facilities in the state of Alaska.
· Computer skills need to include Microsoft applications, and familiar with internet navigation.
· Experience with the following control systems preferred: Emerson DeltaV, OSIsoft PI, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Emerson ROC, and Siemens Leak Detection.
Preferred qualifications
· Previous experience programming PLC’s preferred.
· Previous experience or exposure to Siemens PCS7 and/or Emerson DeltaV preferred.
· Previous experience or exposure to Profibus PA, Profibus DP, DeviceNet and Modbus protocols preferred.
