About the role
Our client are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their Perth team. The role involves working for a Tier 1 Global Engineering Firm on an exciting project.
Position: Principal Electrical Engineer
Location: Perth
Duration: 12-months casual contract
Experience required:
- An Australian recognised Bachelor qualification in the relevant discipline and extensive experience working at an engineering design consultancy as a professional engineer in the oil and gas refinery (or closely allied) industry.
- Strong and proven technical skillset as a Principal Electrical Engineer on detailed design projects and must have ability to work across multiple work fronts.
- Experience across all phases of engineering projects from feasibility/conceptual studies through to detailed design and execution (essential).
- Strong understanding and experience during detailed design of:
- Brownfield interfaces, HV and LV systems, AC and DC systems, Power distribution, electrical calculations required for design and equipment sizing.
- Earthing systems and step and touch potential calculations, earthing, arc flash and lightning studies and design.
- Power system studies (inc. load flow, fault level voltage and motor starting analysis) and protection coordination.
- Creation of design drawings such as SLDs, schematics, terminations, schedules, layouts.
- Site experience such as scoping solutions, condition assessments, construction and commissioning.
- Very good understanding of constructability, maintainability and operability aspects.
- Equipment inspections, witnessing FATs, SATs, preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement and construction scope of works.
- Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules for FID, control system interfacing and instrumentation and Shutdown planning.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, postgraduate qualifications in the relevant discipline; management, project management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent .
- Hazardous Area Accreditation (or experience in design of) and Functional Safety TUV Certification.
Responsibilities include:
- Deliver discipline specific engineering services to meet the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake and/or support engineering design and technical verification of discipline project deliverables by others.
- Proactively seek an understanding of the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant or structure; be responsible for action and close out where relevant.
- Perform and/or manage discipline specific engineering services such as:
- prepare/assist and as required oversee the production of engineering calculations, drawings and documentation.
- ensure all deliverables are checked in accordance to procedures; attend site visits as required.
- facilitate and/or contribute to discipline Safety in Design risk assessment for each project.
- participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs and safety design workshops; and initiate, manage and supervise, engineering assignments with the head office team and Workshare team.
- Prepare engineering estimates for the electrical discipline in response to requests for quotation or change notices: scope engineering requirements; detail methodologies and/or engineering tasks in scope and those out of scope; clarify and detail assumptions, exclusions, rely upon information and deliverables list; input into the schedule incorporating a realistic delivery sequence for the discipline with consideration to project milestones; input from other disciplines and receival of rely on information; and ascertaining resources required based on availability.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with the project stakeholders including the Discipline Team Lead, Workshare team, Client and Project Engineer/Manager on design progress, budget, technical matters, quality, and resource planning.
- Establish relationship and manage packages and/or interfacing with installation contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, site team and client.
- Where there is a need for managing work fronts:
- Manage sequence of engineering tasks at a high level to ensure deliver according to project schedules (including activities by third party contractors)
- Primary interface with customer for discipline-specific engineering issues and deliver the discipline’s design deliverables within schedule and budget
- Ensure technical integrity of the discipline’s deliverables through the implementation of checking and design review activities and provide technical direction, control and supervision for engineering and design on the project
- Maintain discipline task and deliverables lists for the project and coordinate design with other disciplines and squad checking deliverables
- Manage quality and consistency within the discipline and discipline resources assigned to the project
- Coordinate change control and technical query process within the discipline
- Report progress of discipline deliverables, resolve discipline technical issues as well as maintain discipline files.

The role
You will come from a strong Quality focused background with a hands-on approach and be the problem solver the client is looking for. Ideal that you come from a manufacturing background and pose a coachable attitude. You will be managing a team of 4 plus support the leadership team – this is important to note that you must have management experience and strong communication skills. - Provide clear leadership for the development of an environment focused on Quality.
- Develop quality-process links with customers in line with the Quality Management system (including ISO14001/ISO9001 / ISO45001), controls plans, failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and supplier quality assurance (SQA) processes and oversee continued compliance and embedding across the business
- Responsible for maintaining relationships with customers and suppliers to maximise profit potential.
- Work with the directors, managers, supervisors and employees to maintain a programme of continual improvement within their areas of responsibility.
- Contribute to the creation of best practice in implementation of the quality vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures
- Implement all relevant procedures described into the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance
- Respond to customer complaints and action this in a timely manner – full analysis, action, error proof and implement short-term/long-term countermeasures
- Management of the Quality engineers and technicians in the sign-off or parts and the resolution of internal/external quality concerns

What you'll need to succeed

- Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills
- A minimum of 3 years operational (manufacturing related) experience within a similar EHS role
- Exposure to EHS management systems employed by major mining and/or manufacturing organisations a distinct advantage
- Comprehensive knowledge EHS standards: federal, state and local legislation, codes of practice and Australian standards
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

The Role
