Airswift has been tasked by one of our major Oil and Gas clients to seek a Materials and Corrosion Engineer to work in their facilities located in Schiedam, Netherlands. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selection of metallic and non-metallic materials of the structural elements, piping and process equipment, mechanical equipment (static and rotating) and pressure vessels used on SBM’s floating products (FPSOs, FSOs, FLNGs).

Scope includes hulls, marine systems and topside modules.

  • Alignment with fellow material selection, corrosion, cathodic protection, coating and insulation colleagues so that MCP strategy is coherent overall and there are no discrepancies / gaps in the approach.
  • Specialist support for the selection and procurement of vendors equipment in line with specifications and contracts.
  • Interdisciplinary assistance to piping, process, mechanical equipment, marine systems, instrumentation and structural teams for all materials selection and corrosion control aspects at all stages of the project, from design and specification to fabrication, installation and commissioning.
  • Assistance to site teams as well as (ship)yards in ensuring implementation of approved materials and corrosion control design, processing Technical Queries and/or Deviation Requests.
  • Interface with operations and asset integrity teams on all materials and corrosion control topics.
  • Continuous identification and recording of lesson learnt and improvements with constructability, operability and product lifecycle approach.

 

MAIN TASKS

  • Develop metallic and non-metallic material selection philosophies, reports, diagrams for all process equipment and utilities.
  • Perform corrosion rate evaluations for conventional (sweet & sour) and non-conventional streams (such as seawater-based systems etc)
  • Perform erosion rate evaluations using DNV-RP-O501 guidelines and identify the erosion risks for project facilities early on within the development phase
  • Review of internal (PFDs, P&IDs, process line lists, piping lists, piping isometrics, technical specifications, drawings) and vendor’s deliverables to ensure materials and corrosion control are aligned with specifications and contracts.
  • Participate in meetings, audits, workshops, design reviews, risk assessment sessions, root cause analysis where material selection and corrosion control are relevant.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in corrosion control and material selection for FPSOS, FSOS, FLNGSs during FEED, detailed engineering and execution.
  • bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Metallurgy, Petroleum, Materials Science or related technical field 
  • Certification from corrosion and materials related professional association like NACE is highly preferable.
 
  • Knowledge of:
    • International Offshore Material Selection Standards such as ISO 21457 and Norsok M-001.
    • international standards like NACE/ASTM/API/ISO/DNV and other relevant standards, including NACE MR-0175/ISO-15156 for material selection and required properties (hardness control, boundary limits etc.) for CS/LTCS and CRA in sour service.
    • international materials standards and pressure vessel and piping fabrication codes.
    • internal as well as external corrosion & degradation mechanisms in the upstream offshore Oil & Gas industry units including Gas Dehydration Unit, Gas Sweetening Unit, Separation Units, Crude Stabilization Unit, Compression Units, Produced Water & Seawater Treatment Systems, etc.
    • Corrosion rate calculation software such as ECE, Predict.
    • Functioning principles, fabrication technologies and build characteristics of the equipment used in the topside process plant.
    • Chemical injection systems w.r.t corrosion mitigation for FPSOS, FSOS, FLNGSs, topsides and hull (marine systems).
    • Materials failure mechanisms and common corrosion challenges on offshore assets.
 
  • Knowledge of the functioning principles of CP systems (ICCP and SACCP), painting, lining, insulation and fireproofing is a plus.
 
  • Office presence few days per week on a weekly base is required.
  • Availability to traveling to yards, fabrication sites and vendor premises worldwide [business trips].
