Our locally own client in the mining industry is seeking to hire an experienced Safety & Health Coordinator on permanent basis and to be based out its mine site (FIFO). The Safety & Health Coordinator (SHC) will be a member of the Business Leadership Team (BLT), with primary focus/responsibility for all safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and legislative requirements at all sites involving Client’s personnel, regardless of individual employment status or contractual conditions.

Key roles and responsibilities include: 

Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the overall management of all WHS functions, with an obligation to ensure the Business Manager is continuously informed of all and any issues which may impact the commercial status of the business in respect to WHS risk.
  • Ensure all reporting activities are formalized and formatted as per existing, and to be created, reporting documents to the Business Manager.
  • Manage the on-going development and continuous improvement of the WHS management system.
  • Support operational management and supervision through the provision of technical information, including the provision of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures to ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Conduct regular, planned visits to existing and prospective operational environments where Company personnel are/will be engaged to continually monitor and manage the WHS and risk assessment requirements of the Company.

Critical Tasks
  • Achieve and maintain all agreed individual KPI’s;
  • Through effective management and leadership, assist management, supervision and operational personnel achieve and maintain all WHS related KPI’s.
  • Work collectively with the Business Manager to achieve business KPI’s and goals.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Achievement of agreed targets in relation to:
    • Lost Time Injury
    • Medical Treated Injury
    • First Aid Injury
  • Timely and accurate reporting of hazards, incidents, and near misses.
  • Reduce Return to Work times.
  • Development and growth of Company awareness and adoption of a zero-tolerance culture in
  • relation to WHS

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required:
 
  • Qualifications in safety, quality and/or environmental management.
  • A minimum 10 years’ experience in an industrial WHS and/or Risk Management position.
  • Experience in the development, implementation, and management of WHS management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach operational personnel in adherence to WHS requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a culture where safety comes first.
  • Ability to conduct business dealings at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in commercial business dealings and high level WHS legislation, specifically in relation to the resources, construction, and heavy industry sectors.
  • Have sound knowledge of tendering and contracts in the context of developing plans and responses to safety, health, and environment requirements.
  • Strong negotiating and presentation skills at management level with proven experience in Risk Management negotiation.
