We are currently recruiting for a Senior Module Engineer to join our team based in Wilton, Redcar. This is a PAYE contract role for an initial 12-month period, with rate to be discussed.
Key Responsibilities and background:
The Senior Module Engineer shall work to support the Module Manager and Construction Manager to support Project and Discipline Managers, providing modularisation input and guidance into design, schedule and estimating including developing the packaging of design to suit Fabrication, Construction, Commissioning, and schedule needs recognising any specific operational or shutdown constraints.
- Provide Front End Modularisation input to the Project FEED programme
- Drive the “right to left” delivery model and ensuring all design has sufficient construction input
- Support and develop Modularization Studies to determine if modularization will be the correct project execution strategy to achieve cost and schedule certainty or improvement.
- Support the conducting of module logistics studies with aid of Logistics group to determine weight and size limitations that may be imposed by load-out, sea transport, offloading and installation of modules
- Support the development of module delivery plans, recognizing module logistics constraints such as ice-free delivery windows, fabrication lead times, and installation sequence to support commissioning plans
- Advise on module loading and offloading interfaces, especially developing specifications for offloading facilities in locations with high tide ranges, open to sea waves, etc.
- Advise on module transport characteristics that may influence module structural design, such as roll-on/roll-off handling versus lift-on/lift-off, sea transport modes, sea transport routes and climatic characteristics; advise on module delivery to foundations, including provision of Heavy Haul Roads and integration of temporary support and permanent foundation requirements.
- Be familiar with specialized sea transport providers – barges, self-propelled heavy lift vessels for RoRo and LoLo operations. Understand Marine Warranty Surveyor requirements for module load-out, offloading, sea transport and installation.
- Support Construction and Engineering with constructability input during plant systemization into modules, involving commissioning to agree on module content that best supports testing and precommissioning activities in module fabrication yards and at site.
- Undertake benchmarking studies to measure success in modularization, examples ratio of structural steel to equipment, number of field hook-up. Undertake benchmarking studies regarding site and module fabrication yard work hours, productivity, wages, unit rates of production; perform cross-project analyses to support such benchmarking studies.
- Support planning with inputs to the development of EPC schedules for modularized plant, especially the planning interfaces with module fabrication yards, sea transport providers and site.
- Provide inputs to Construction for Construction Execution Plans for modularized plant.
- Be familiar with key module fabrication contractors in order to assist in development of module fabrication strategies; undertake prequalification surveys and develop module fabrication strategies; be familiar with and manage module fabrication bid processes; manage module fabrication campaigns.
- Be familiar with, provide input and support safety programs for modularized projects, especially in design for safe construction that needs to be built into module design and works to be performed in module fabrication yards to facilitate safe construction at site.
- Support all aspects of EPC cost / price estimation related to modularization including load-out and offloading, sea fastenings, sea transport, installation, hook-up and testing and precommissioning; develop fabrication and construction management organization charts and manpower plans.
- Work with Sub-Contracts Manager on Contractor capability assessments prequalification procedure, development of tender lists and Tender submission reviews.
- Work with Construction Management to assesses the required site establishment and laydown requirements.
- Work with Planning to produce module schedule inputs to ensure release of design packages to ensure an efficient smoothly resourced build.
- Complies with all applicable in country statutory, legal and specific Client requirements and is involved with the HSE Manager in the preparation of the Module Yards and main site Construction Health and Safety plan. Ensures that proposed yard construction methods and procedures are safe and adequate in all respect.
- Ensure that the company’s construction methods, procedures and practices are in all respects, particularly those relating to quality assurance, safety, personnel and industrial relations, properly complied with.
- Work with Construction and Commissioning to ensure that the work, the commissioning of and handover of the plant is clear and agreed by the Client’s Representative(s)
- Work with Company SMEs to address transportation logistics and crane studies for key lifts.
- The Senior Module Engineer should be aware of the technical and commercial obligations of the contract and ensure that they are understood and implemented in his area of responsibility.
- Ensure safe, efficient and structured delivery of all construction activities in accordance with the Project schedule.
- Ensure MOC (Management of Change) compliance and adherence throughout project lifecycle
- Inspect works for technical compliance with drawings, specifications & scopes of work
- Highlight deficiencies, initiate & close out non-conformance reports
- Input to schedules as requested by the Construction Planner
- Review of Contractor Schedules
Critical Skills & Personal Attributes:
Essential:
- The candidate will have significant management experience in their chosen discipline, with previous experience of interfacing across all disciplines - disciplines – engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up, testing and precommissioning.
- Previous employers are likely to include major EPC contractors, but possibly also service with module fabricators and transportation and installation specialists
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with the Stakeholders involved in the Project both verbally & in writing. Methodical work ethic; ensuring consistency in output. Capable of working and solving technical challenges independently.
- Fully conversant with Project Management Systems with knowledge of site or yard engineering/ Construction/Commissioning practices and procedures
- Recognised discipline background and proven leadership experience in this discipline
- Management experience in the Engineering Construction Industry
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Delivery focused and committed to achievement of project/company goals
- Although this is an office based role, it is also very hands-on and the candidate must be willing to work at a considerable level of detail. The role is based in the UK and will require some international travel.

- The candidate should have experience of all aspects of plant modularization, across all disciplines – engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up, testing and precommissioning.

- An ‘Incident Free’ mind-set, and be a role model for their project team (Direct/Indirect hires)
- A full understanding of how all elements of the project scope integrate and interface with each other and are managed to successfully deliver the right project outcome - from construction, and through to commissioning and handover to operations
- An excellent ability to undertake research, prepare technical and commercial study reports and make technical presentations is required; fluency in written and spoken English is essential, and other languages will be helpful.
- Demonstrate excellent teamwork skills, being able to work with the various sub-teams to resolve issues and reach decisions that are in the best interests of the integrated project team
- Staff management experience (knowledge transfer) and previous experience of development of more junior team members.
