Overall Job Purpose
The suitable candidate will be able to apply project knowledge, Engineering knowledge and seasoned experience to independently manage the engineering and design of a project, resolve interface issues across different engineering disciplines and support the fabrication, installation, commissioning and startup of facilities and equipment/ utilities interface associated with the conversion and outfitting of FSO / FPSO tankers, conversion of MOPU jack-ups for production operations or deep water TLP projects.
Objectives & Expectations
- Evaluates all designs for subsystem components (involving participating in various design review meetings with engineering department) from various perspectives including the perspective of the Operation.
- Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness in the implementation of all engineering procedures.
- Provides an efficient interface with all engineering systems and processes and ensures adherence to all best industry practices to resolve all client issues.
- Administers and designs effective solutions to address all complex problems and coordinates with customer management on these matters
- Assists various departments to resolve all issues on engineering processes, including investigating all discrepancies in processes and recommending resolutions.
- Identifies and manages right kind or resources to meet schedule and targets.
- Coordinates with engineering support staff and engineers to provide assistance to all programs and monitors all vendor visits.
- Identifies lessons learnt from previous projects and applies them in own area of work and ensures the disciplines concerned also take the lessons into account in doing their work.
- Keeps abreast of knowledge of industry standards, documents the knowledge on relevant technologies and assists in advance research.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of company development work methodology/procedures
- Identify and integrate Safety, Quality requirements in the Design to ensure safe operability and maintainability
- Approval of calculations/RFQ/Technical bid analysis
- Ensure compliance with Company’s Standards and Procedures with specific attention to change management and deviation approval process.
- Must understand company goals and implement management directive and policies
- Support management/project management in review, risk assessment, strategies, establishment, management and close-out of all engineering issues.
- Ensures consistency of engineering design across all disciplines working on the project.
- Independently develops solutions to non-recurring problems by analyzing, interpreting and evaluating various precedents and data. Anticipate potential problems and takes preventive actions.
- Manage schedule & targets of the project as required
- Define Design intent. Interface with all discipline to clarify/explain design intent and suggest alternatives when need arises
- Monitor/Guide all discipline lead engineers assigned to the project
- Monitors quality and productivity of engineering disciplines working on the project
- Produces engineering progress reports and other reports/documents that might be delegated by the Project Manager.
- Conduct performance assessment of engineers and Engineering Coordinators
- To be adequately familiar with the key activities and needs of all the engineering disciplines and how these activities interact and are sequenced and the implications is a major challenge.
- To be able to deal efficiently, professionally and tactfully with numerous stakeholders, both internal and external is a challenge.
- It is also a challenge to keep up with the knowledge and changes (in practices, processes, designs and standards) in various engineering disciplines.
- It may be a challenge to persuade and ensure that the engineering design teams provide sufficient details and instructions to accompany their drawings so as to avoid delay and cost outlay relating to variations and rework (e.g. clear instructions should be given to shipyards to do the right things and produce the right deliverables efficiently).
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering with minimum 20 years’ experience in onshore/offshore Oil & Gas area or FPSO line(s) or MS degree plus minimum 15 years relevant experience. Diploma holders having 20 -yrs experience with additional qualification/ Certificate (making the equivalent to degree) can also be considered. Minimum 1 FPSO experience is necessary.
- • Ability to communicate with construction sites and commissioning team on technical requirements and manage technical queries and changes.
- Client management skills.
- Adequate knowledge of all the interfaces between Topside and Marine Engineering, facilities/systems of FPSO with specific attention to his discipline, and working of all Process, Mechanical, Piping, Structure, Electrical & Telecom, Instrumentation and Marine engineering.
- Knowledge of sequencing of engineering activities.
- Capability to review engineering deliverables of various disciplines and knowledge of the types of documents to be generated by each engineering department and the inputs involved.
- Capable of defining design concepts during initial phase of the project considering HSE, constructability operability and maintainability.
- Familiarity with standards applicable to engineering disciplines and awareness of class, industry, statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to organize meetings and liaise with class and client team to resolve issues.
- Should understand FPSO design from Operability & Maintenance perspective
- Should possess basic understanding of Field Operating condition (i.e. Pre-salt, H2S, etc.)
- Must understand and interpret total Project life-cycle cost & benefit, as well as their implications during FEED & EPC phase planning & design.
- Must possess good communication and leadership skills.
