One of our major Oil and Gas clients is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to work at the Distillation, Processing & Specialties Team (DPST) for initially 10 months contract in Richmond, CA.

Job Description:

As a Laboratory Research Technician within the Distillation, Processing & Specialties Team (DPST), you will play a crucial role in operating complex distillation and process laboratory equipment. This involves the maintenance of round-the-clock operations under the guidance of the supervisor/lead technician. The laboratory equipment includes large and small reactors, as well as distillation columns, operating at elevated temperatures and various pressures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and oversee the operation of process units, utility systems, and related equipment in accordance with the requests of research scientists and engineers, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Participate actively in Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives both individually and as part of the crew and the ESU team.
  • Adhere to a flexible work schedule, which may include rotating shifts (graveyard, days, and swing), Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend overtime (some mandatory).
  • Conduct inspections to ensure proper functioning of equipment and promptly address any unsafe conditions.
  • Provide support in sample handling activities for research and crude oil assay samples for internal and external customers and other internal labs.
  • Meet OE objectives and milestones.

Minimum Required Job Criteria:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2+ years of plant and/or lab operations experience (plant equipment and maintenance) or equivalent mechanical background work.
  • Experience with process equipment and/or instrument technology.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365, Excel, and Word software.
  • Strong commitment to lab safety, Operational Excellence, and Human Organizational Performance.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key company's colleagues outside their immediate work group.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in science, technology, mechanical/pipe fitting trade, or related field.
  • Refinery Operator Training - experience/attendance in ROP/P-Tech.
  • Some knowledge of basic control instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Experience in working with chemicals, heavy oil, and distillate research or related materials.
