Airswift has been tasked by one of our major Engineering clients to seek a Senior Substation Engineer to work on a growth opportunity with an initial 12-month contract (contract to hire) in Jacksonville, FL.

You will provide engineering support for the design of substation facilities for voltages up to and including 765 kV for our client and its customers as an integral part of the Power Networks team. This includes new substations and switchyards, modifications, additions and upgrades to existing facilities.


Responsibilities:
 

  • Substation physical design, encompassing engineering analysis for new switchyards, substations, and associated additions/modifications.
  • Prepare specifications and provide procurement support.
  • Develop engineering drawings for high-voltage switchyards and substations, covering layout, equipment, structures, site plans, grounding, conduit, lighting, lightning protection, control building arrangements, AC station service, DC systems, and Bills of Material.
  • Conduct auxiliary electrical power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing.
  • Perform substation grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, bus and transformer sizing, fault calculations, and AC/DC auxiliary system sizing.
  • Prepare proposals, estimates, and contribute to scope documents and client presentations.
  • Collaborate effectively in team-oriented and independent environments.
  • Ensure document quality meets client standards and adhere to project procedures, codes, and standards within schedule and budget.
  • Supervise and coordinate engineers to successfully deliver projects, providing technical direction.
  • Discuss technical problems and communicate effectively with project personnel and clients.
  • Conduct independent audits and reviews of technical work.
  • Serve as a team leader, resolving complex issues, and ensuring deliverable quality.
  • Interface with departmental staff, project management, and clients.
  • Travel to job sites for site walkdowns.
  • Ensure documents comply with drawing standards and proper document management procedures.



Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States or must be open to obtaining a PE.
  • Minimum 5+ years of substation experience.
  • High Voltage experience (Outdoor substations).
  • EPC and power generation experience preferred.
  • A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Competent use of electrical engineering-specific software
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal and written communication skills that permit working efficiently alongside other senior substation engineers and designers in a team setting.
