Brunei is a sovereign state on the north coast of Borneo in Southeast Asia. The country is surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak and is the only sovereign state on the island of Borneo. Brunei has an estimated population of 429,000 and the most commonly spoken languages are Brunei Malay and English.

Brunei obtained independence from the UK in 1984. It’s a member of the commonwealth and ASEAN (Associations of Southeast Asian Nations). Brunei has one of the highest standards of living in the world due to the oil and gas industry accounting for half of its GDP.

English is widely spoken in Business and business in Brunei follows a Muslim culture. Men commonly wear dark pants or clacks, long-sleeved shirts and a tie. While women wear skirts or slacks with a blouse.

Brunei has quite a few things for expatriates to do while in the country. Some of which include visiting the beautiful mosque’s like the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, exploring new jungles, the national park, a gorgeous water village, plenty of museums and much more.
