The global rail industry is evolving, and various social and technological factors are contributing to a new renaissance in the sector. Consider population growth. In Australia, 24.6 million people were recorded as living in the country as of 2017. That’s expected to nearly double to 42 million by the year 2066.
Population growth of this magnitude is helping to prompt a global infrastructure revolution. Effective transport solutions need to be provided to cope with demand and better connect cities. Consider technology, too, which is transforming traditional rail beyond recognition. Across the world, the industry is moving toward high-speed rail solutions and digitisation. The rail industry in the 21st Century is moving away from people driving trains toward driverless engines with onboard digital systems.
With more than 40 years working in technical industries, Airswift has worked alongside some of the most reputable names in the global rail industry. We focus on sourcing and providing talent and services that offer innovation and efficiency for your organisation.
Airswift is the staffing agency of choice for world-leading businesses.

Our client needed a Senior Consultant to support major rail infrastructure projects in Queensland and New South Wales. The role required expertise in rail operations, simulation, capacity analysis, and option evaluation, along with experience using RailSys and OpenTrack.
We identified a transport professional with engineering qualifications, consulting experience, and hands-on project delivery. Their advanced modelling skills and stakeholder management added immediate value, enhancing corridor studies, operational assessments, and advisory solutions. Their appointment strengthened the client’s ability to deliver future-proofed transport strategies for complex rail networks.
We sourced a Senior Rolling Stock Consultant for a leading engineering consultancy’s expanding rail portfolio. The ideal candidate had a Mechanical Engineering degree and over five years of experience in rolling stock design, project management, and operational support.
The consultant managed assignments, providing expertise in rolling stock safety, reliability, and performance. They conducted design reviews, developed maintenance strategies, and contributed to lease and life cycle cost modelling. Their work enhanced engineering solutions, improved asset performance, and helped expand the consultancy's client base in Perth’s rail sector.
We were tasked with sourcing a Senior Engineer - ICT and Integration for rolling stock asset management projects in Brisbane. The role required expertise in integration planning, systems assurance, root cause analysis, and knowledge of subsystems like CCTV, Train Control, and Comms, along with proficiency in EN50155, EN50128, and ETCS/ERTMS.
We identified a candidate with over five years of rail engineering experience and strong systems engineering skills. They streamlined requirements definition, improved system reliability, and provided valuable technical guidance, enhancing project delivery and supporting the client’s innovation in transport infrastructure.
