What are the key responsibilities in a pipeline job?

Professionals working within pipeline roles typically have the following responsibilities, depending on their job role:

Pipeline technician:

• Maintenance pigging 
• Valve maintenance and lubrication 
• Pipeline corrosion control
• Control device monitoring 
• Gauge pressure monitoring 

Pipeline operator:

• Managing operations such as pigging, valve testing, inspections, surveys, flow assurance and corrosion control 
• Working with operations teams and pipeline integrity managers to develop year-on-year activity plans
• Ensuring projects are properly budgeted 
• Ensuring activities are properly managed according to work control processes 
• Providing technical support for more complex activities 
• Routinely reporting on pipeline operations performance 

What qualifications and experience do I need to get an oil pipeline job? 

Most oil and natural gas companies will expect candidates to have a degree in engineering (preferably mechanical or civil engineering). You will also need to have significant experience in the oil and gas industry, such as working on field operations. 

What locations can I work in?
