The role:
Our client is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Site Quantity Surveyor / Onsite Cost Engineer to support the commercial management of a major construction project. The role involves managing subcontractors, tracking site variations, and monitoring site activities. This position is perfect for candidates with foundational knowledge in quantity surveying who are eager to gain more hands-on experience in project cost management and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing subcontractor performance and managing the commercial aspects of the site.
  • Track and document site variations, aiding in the approval process.
  • Monitor onsite activities, reporting any disruptions or delays that could impact the project timeline or budget.
  • Support strategies for recovering costs and time due to project delays.
  • Manage the rental and usage of construction equipment to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Prepare financial reports, including cost-value reconciliations and forecasts.
  • Provide contractual support by assisting senior surveyors with contract compliance, variations, claims, and final accounts.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Some experience in quantity surveying, ideally within the construction sector.
  • Basic knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Strong English language skills for reporting and documentation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
