Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified Operations/Laboratory Technician to support daily plant activities involving both operations and laboratory functions. This role is accountable for monitoring process equipment, performing chemical analyses, and ensuring the safe and compliant operation of the facility. The position requires collaboration with engineers and technical staff, routine equipment monitoring, and adherence to laboratory and operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in daily operations meetings to communicate updates on safety, environmental compliance, quality, and key performance metrics
- Maintain required operations and laboratory skills, certifications, and qualification standards
- Follow laboratory methods, quality guidelines, and operating procedures for all testing and plant activities
- Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Identify process, safety, or environmental issues and initiate corrective measures
- Understand plant emergency procedures and the location and use of emergency equipment
- Support plant and lab operations through sample collection, preparation, chemical testing, equipment adjustments, and routine recordkeeping
- Interpret technical documents, equipment readings, and process data
- Work a full-time schedule including nights, weekends, rotating shifts, and callouts as needed
- Cross-train across different functions within the facility
- Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership
Basic / Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of laboratory technician experience, or
- One year of laboratory experience in an industrial plant setting, or
- Two years of experience as a plant operator
- Ability to conduct chemical analyses, perform operational checks, and carry out minor equipment tasks
- Capability to read and interpret technical data and documentation
- Willingness to work varying shifts and respond to operational needs with limited supervision
- Strong understanding of standard safety practices and operational procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Chemical Laboratory Technician, Plant Operator Technology Certificate, or equivalent experience (including military training)
- Previous work in environments requiring process monitoring and laboratory testing
- Familiarity with operational recordkeeping, analytical procedures, and plant support functions
Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, process systems, and operational workflows
- Ability to conduct inspections, collect accurate readings, and maintain detailed documentation
- Strong communication skills for coordination with engineers, operators, and technical staff
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in both lab and plant activities
- Ability to multitask safely and effectively in a dynamic operational environment
