Claims Quantity Surveyor

Location: Surrey, UK

Hybrid: Min 3 days per week in office

Start date: ASAP

Duration: 6 to 9 month contract

Position Overview

This position is focused on supporting project delivery for a global engineering contractor, covering operations in the UK across multiple business lines. The company manages projects primarily in energy, engineering, and construction sectors.  This role has a a specific focus on claims preparation, cost management, and contract compliance. The role involves end-to-end responsibility for ensuring claims are accurately prepared, substantiated, and negotiated in line with all contractual and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Claims Preparation & Management Analyse contract documents, project plans, and correspondence to identify potential claims and areas of risk.
  • Prepare, assess, and submit claims for additional costs, extensions of time, variations, and other contractual entitlements.
  • Quantify and substantiate claims through the collection and presentation of relevant evidence, including site records, schedules, and cost data.

Subcontractor & Scope Review:

  • Review Subcontractor claims against scope and agree the correct elements (cost and time) of any change in scope with Subcontractor team in support of the Project Manager.
  • Identify the correct elements (cost and time) of any change in scope claimed by Subcontractor and prepare the on pass of the claims to Company incorporating Contractor elements.

Collaboration & Negotiation:

  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, clients, and legal advisors to resolve claims efficiently and amicably.
  • Negotiate settlements and participate in formal dispute resolution processes if necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of claims and associated documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Provide expert advice on contractual matters, risk management, and claims strategy throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as Claims Quantity Surveyor or similar activities within a project context.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, cost management, and dispute resolution procedures.
  • Experience with IT tools relevant to the role (Office package).

  • Analytical and critical thinking for detailed contract and cost reviews.
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meticulous record keeping for claim substantiation and audit trails.
