BESS Commissioning Manager – RCO
The BESS Commissioning Manager is responsible for leading the testing, startup, and performance validation of large?scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid solar?plus?storage facilities. This role acts as the Owner’s representative, overseeing system compliance, safety, commissioning activities, reporting, and all contractor/vendor performance testing at the project site.
Location:
Primarily remote, with periodic travel across the U.S. for site testing (up to ~20%). Additional responsibilities include remote support through SCADA monitoring.

Senior Commissioning Project Manager
Preferred Background
- Engineering or electrical background in power systems construction and startup
- Experience commissioning a minimum of 100 MWh or 5+ BESS assets
- Strong understanding of BESS technology and integration
- SCADA experience preferred
Required Skills
- Hands?on experience with BESS installation and startup
- Deep technical knowledge of Li?ion battery systems, DC systems (0–2,000 Vdc), and AC systems (480 V–34.5 kV)
- Experience with containerized/ skid?mounted systems, controllers, SCADA, transformers, and combiners
- Ability to create and execute commissioning processes
- Troubleshooting experience with control and SCADA systems
- Strong communication, organization, and scheduling skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in safety programs and site audits
- Support PPA, GIA, and ISO testing
- Manage test?energy forecasting and notifications
- Support SCADA/IT teams with functional checks and ICCP validation
- Develop commissioning schedules in coordination with SCADA integrators and project teams
- Execute Site Acceptance Testing and support alarm verification processes
- Perform OEM testing, plant balancing, capacity testing, and AGC/AVR support
- Review system performance data and identify deficiencies
Physical Requirements
- Ability to distinguish color?coded HMI indicators
- Comfortable with extended screen time
- Valid driver’s license and ability to commute between work locations
