Role Description – Commissioning Superintendent


Reporting to: Terminal Commissioning Lead
Direct Reports: Commissioning Engineers, Certification/Completion Coordinator (and interface with ATS Coordinator)

Purpose of the Role
The Commissioning superintendent acts as the primary coordinator between the commissioning team and the Site organization, ensuring safe, efficient, and well-prepared execution of commissioning activities.
The role involves aligning multidisciplinary teams, managing site routines and logistics, facilitating communication with stakeholders, and supporting planning and reporting. It also includes promoting safety culture, onboarding visitors, and adapting responsibilities based on project phases such as pre-shutdown, shutdown, and post-shutdown.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the point of contact between the commissioning team and the Terminal organization.

  • Coordinate and align all commissioning disciplines (Mechanical, EI&I, SAS/Automation, HVAC, Process & Piping) to ensure safe and efficient execution of Terminal activities.

  • Prepare site(s) for commissioning activities and vendor visits by ensuring availability of tools, equipment, material and documentation.

  • Manage and communicate site routines: work order and work permit processes, access requirements, responsibilities and role allocation, and required systems/utilities for upcoming commissioning activities.

  • Provide regular planning updates to Terminal team, client representatives, and commissioning management regarding status, upcoming activities, and planned supplier visits.

  • Introduce and onboard internal and external visitors to Terminal routines, safety rules, and responsibilities.

  • Supporting Commissioning Engineers with logistical and procedural matters at Terminal.

  • Coordinate and align Terminal-level reporting with overall commissioning planning.

  • Promote safety culture by ensuring compliance with all Terminal HSE requirements during commissioning.

  • Capture and share lessons learned related to Terminal coordination and routines for future improvement.

  • Scope and nature of responsibilities may evolve depending on the phase of the project— such as pre-shutdown, shutdown, and post-shutdown.

  • Coordination with relevant subcontractors and vendors for the development of PDP and RAMS / MOS ( Mode opératoire en securité)

Skills and qualifications:

  • Good knowledge and familiar on working in decree 92 (PDP)

  • Valid ANFAS N1 and N2 accreditation

  • Fluent in French written and spoken and same for English language

  • Valid accreditation ATEX level 2

  • Valid H2V and HE/BE-ESSAI and B2V electrical accreditation  ( HT/BT )

  • Good HSE culture and knowledge on risk analysis and management

  • Good experience on LOTO procedure
