We are currently searching for a Data Engineer to be based in Brussels, Belgium and work in a 12 - month contract with the possibility of extension.



The Data Engineer will support the modernization and further evolution of its in-house Gas Flow Management application suite (“GSmart”), and integrate the agile development teams, who will be involved in all aspects of the services, including new projects and developments, technical upgrades, bug resolution and incident management.



Main Responsibilities:


As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the central Data Warehouse to support key functional product processes such as contracting, flow planning, invoicing, and data publication. You will build and optimize high-performance ETL pipelines and reporting solutions, ensuring they meet business requirements and align with organizational standards. Main tasks include deploying through governed data pipelines, debugging, aligning with your team and peer reviewing code.



In collaboration with the technical lead, you will contribute to the technical design of scalable and reliable data solutions. Experience with Microsoft BI technologies and involvement in corporate-wide projects is highly valued.

  • Join agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and delivery.

  • Analyse functional and technical requirements to design database models.

  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines using Microsoft BI tools.

  • Develop semantic data models in Analysis Services and Power BI.

  • Create and maintain reports in SSRS.

  • Prepare and execute releases within a governed deployment framework.

  • Perform technical testing and peer code reviews with the data designer.

  • Support end-users by explaining data lineage and transformation logic.

  • Collaborate with team members to challenge and improve code, ETL flows, support tasks, and technical solutions.

  • Coordinate with infrastructure teams (system engineers, network engineer, database administrators) to resolve technical issues and set up new architecture.

Skills & Expertise:


Must have:

  • Deep knowledge of the Ralph Kimball’s data warehousing concepts.

  • Proven experience in agile Business Intelligence development team.

  • Knowledge of relational databases and good data investigation/querying skills.

  • A strong team player with a goal-directed attitude.

  • Able to fluently communicate in English (spoken and written).

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server data warehouses, SSRS & SSIS.

  • Experience working with semantic modelling tools like SSAS or Power BI.

Considered a Plus:

  • Ability to fluently communicate in Dutch (spoken) and/or French (spoken).

  • Experience with Azure analytics suite tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, etc.).

  • Background knowledge in the energy sector.

  • Experience providing support to end-users.

  • Experienced in governed environments, with proficiency in Git, branching strategies, and Microsoft DevOps deployment pipelines.
