Airswift is seeking a Design Engineer to support the power industry in an initial 1-year contract, with possibility to extend.


This is a remote position in a 5/40 schedule.



We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and implementation of utility?scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop protection and control (P&C) designs for utility?scale substations and points of interconnection (POI).
  • Create settings, logic diagrams, control schematics, and related documentation.
  • Design transformer, feeder, and bus protection schemes.
  • Apply and coordinate utility communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, IEC 61850).
  • Perform power flow and voltage regulation studies.
  • Conduct POI and grid compliance studies.
  • Carry out protection coordination analyses.
  • Execute arc?flash studies.
  • Assess power quality and harmonics.
  • Substation Engineering & Layout
  • Coordinate equipment selection with vendors and manufacturers.
  • Develop substation layouts (AIS/GIS) and general arrangement drawings.
  • Design conduit systems, cable routing, and trench layouts.
  • Create building layouts, grounding grid designs, and safety clearances.
  • Design communication system architecture for substations and BESS sites.
  • Support SCADA and control system integration with utilities and operators.
  • Configure network infrastructure and associated communication pathways.

Requirements:

  • Experience in utility?scale renewable energy projects (solar PV and BESS).
  • Strong understanding of utility interconnection processes and standards.
  • Proficiency in electrical design using CAD platforms.
  • Practical experience with PV modeling tools such as PVsyst.
  • Experience with PSCAD.
  • Familiarity with high?voltage substation design best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and utilities.
  • Familiar with relay software platforms (SEL, GE, etc.).
