Airswift is seeking an Energy Marshal to support data center projects in an initial 5-month contract position in Las Vegas, NV, with possibility of extension!

A Data Center Energy Marshal comprehensive plan ensures safe, compliant, and efficient energy management during construction and operation, primarily focusing on strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, risk mitigation, and compliance with standards like NFPA 70E. They act as an independent authority to approve energy isolation procedures, review Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and enforce safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Energy Isolation Program Management: Establishing, auditing, and enforcing a, central, site-wide LOTO program across all vendors and contractors.
  • Permitting & Review: Reviewing and approving Method of Procedure (MOPs), Scope of Work (SoW), and scripts for energy isolation.
  • Safety & Compliance Enforcement: Acting as an independent authority to stop unsafe work practices, enforcing NFPA 70E, and ensuring OSHA compliance for high-risk activities.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conducting daily walkthroughs to verify zero energy states, proper PPE usage, and that qualifications/training of personnel are up-to-date.
  • Technical Expertise: Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) in electrical safety, interpreting one-line diagrams, and understanding complex electrical infrastructure.
  • Reporting & Liaison: Providing daily/weekly reports to stakeholders and serving as a liaison between construction teams and operating data center staff.
  • Validating Live-Dead-Live (LDL) testing.
  • Managing multi-shift, high-risk energization, and commissioning phases.
  • Developing and updating site-specific energy isolation plans.
  • Utilize SPS-101 Energy Isolation SPS and SPS-101 Energy Isolation Guidebook as the baseline and foundation of the Energy Isolation Program that is implemented throughout the campus and project.
  • Establishes and manages an Energy Isolation assurance process and works with site teams to close any gaps identified in assurance audits.  Alignment Checklist SPS 101 Energy Isolation is provided as a reference / guideline
  • Participate in High-Risk Activity (HRA) planning meetings associated with Energy Isolation.
  • Ensures approval process for proposed Energy Isolation procedures is in place.
  • Work with the Authorizing Energy Marshal to establish an Energy Isolation Permit process.
  • Ensures SoWs, MOPs, and Scripts are reviewed, and all sources of energy are identified.
  • Helps determine if a group or individual LOTO will be required.  Establishes with the Authorizing Energy Marshal a centralized LOTO with all site entities.
  • Ensures process is established that verifies qualifications, training, and PPE of personnel performing the work.
  • Delegates alternates that are qualified to assume role during multi-shift and peak energization time frames.
  • Liaising MS Operations where energy isolation activities may potentially impact operating datacenter core operations.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience: 5+ years in Electrical Construction Safety, specifically in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour, NFPA 70E proficiency, and Master Electrician background.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, and ability to read blueprints.
