Job Description – Engineering Lead (Civil & Structural)
Job Purpose
The Engineering Lead (Civil & Structural) oversees all civil and structural engineering activities during the EPC execution phase, ensuring the discipline’s technical deliverables are completed in line with the approved scope, schedule, budget, and company specifications. The role ensures robust engineering governance, technical integrity, and effective coordination across all project stakeholders.
Job Context & Major Challenges
- Managing all civil and structural engineering activities across multiple office locations and within a brownfield environment.
- Coordinating with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, requiring high professional conduct, flexibility, and strong communication.
- Ensuring full compliance with project specifications, company standards, and stakeholder expectations.
- Overseeing the technical integrity of third-party deliverables (vendors, consultants, contractors, etc.).
Key Job Accountabilities(High-level unique responsibilities for this specific position):
- Lead the civil and structural engineering discipline throughout project execution, contributing to departmental strategy and objectives.
- Drive technical activities and provide expert input to internal teams, project owners, shareholders, EPC contractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Develop, update, and improve engineering policies and procedures for the project Onshore Department in collaboration with the Engineering Manager and Team Leads.
- Support external engineering teams to ensure design outcomes reflect company and stakeholder expectations.
- Evaluate complex technical issues and provide recommendations to management while supporting multi?disciplinary project tasks.
- Establish and maintain best practices, lessons learned, work processes, and engineering tools to enhance project execution efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure strict compliance with company Project Management System (PMS), developing schedules and work plans that support timely delivery.
- Participate in procurement and contracting activities, ensuring all technical requirements are fulfilled during pre?qualification, tendering, evaluation, execution, and closeout.
- Monitor and guide FEED, EPC contractors, and all third?party service providers to ensure the facilities are designed and constructed in accordance with the approved scope, company standards, and project cost/time baselines.
- Maintain a complete and traceable record of all civil and structural design changes, including cause-and-effect documentation, to support contract management.
Person Specification – Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in engineering roles, including 4 years in the Oil & Gas sector.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory, acting?lead, or contractor oversight experience.
- Experience working with Oil & Gas companies, EPC contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Strong knowledge of international design codes, engineering standards, and specifications.
- Experience across multiple project phases, preferably complete lifecycle from FEED to Start?up.
- Proven competence in risk assessment, decision?making, change management, and interface management.
- Experience in technology adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity working within large integrated operating organisations (projects, operations, subsurface, etc.).
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) level proficiency in at least one engineering discipline.
- Experience with sour gas, LNG facilities (onshore), or large offshore platforms/pipelines (offshore).
Technical & Business Skills
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Strong leadership qualities and integrity, with experience guiding contractor teams.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and planning abilities.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to interface at all organisational levels.
- Strong mediation skills: conflict resolution, problem solving, influencing, creativity, and empathy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and discipline engineering tools/software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of international civil engineering standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
