Responsibilities

Position Objective

The Field Environment Advisor is a back-to-back site based role, responsible for providing onsite environmental management support for the APF Tie In Project.

Position Accountabilities

Accountabilities for this position are:

+

Build key relationships with Project and Operational stakeholders for all environmental matters.

+

Provide support to the Project’s Environment and Regulatory Lead.

+

Provide support the Port Moresby based Environment Advisor with developing environmental performance reports.

+

Provide input into environmental performance reports as per conditions of environmental approvals.

+

Safely and effectively verify that controls outlined in the Environment Permit, Project’s Environmental and Social Management Plan, Cultural Heritage Management Plan, Chance Finds Protocol have been implemented and assess their performance against the objectives that they have been developed for.

+

Verify controls, as per the Contractors Management Plan, have been implemented in the field.

+

Provide site support for any third-party environmental surveys or assessments required for the Project.

+

Undertake environmental sampling and inspections (e.g. water quality, noise, air emissions, invasive species, erosion and sediment controls) to demonstrate compliance with the Project’s environmental and verification program.

+

Roll out and deliver environmental awareness programs in the field.

+

Develop and deliver toolbox talk material with respect to environmental and cultural heritage matters.

+

Address day to day issues that arise during the execution phase as they relate to environmental matters.

+

Coordinate with relevant teams to troubleshoot any non-conformances with respect to environmental and cultural heritage incidents.

+

Assist and provide input where needed to the Community Affairs team in grievance management.

+

Support Project’s Environment and Regulator Lead and the PNG Business Unit Environment team with the reporting and management of environmental incidents.

+

Collect and maintain environmental data records and registers.

+

Undertake preliminary environmental assessments of land access requests and support feedback into the Project’s Land Access process.

+

Assist in the preparation of close out reports, reinstatement plans.

Professional Experience

Essential experience required for this position includes:

+

At least five years working in a similar position for the resource industry (oil & gas, mining)

+

Experience in working with the National Museum and Art Gallery highly valued.

+

Create and maintain good working relationships with a culturally diverse workforce.

+

Work independently with limited supervision, to be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

+

Use high-level analytical and conceptual thinking while using initiative and being proactive in resolving issues.

+

Utilise sound communication skills both oral and written.

+

Working safely for long-hours and cope with living in a remote location in a “back-to-back” situation.

+

Track record of delivery in complex / challenging and remote environments.

+

Remote, developing country and wet tropics experience desirable

Technical Competencies

Technical competencies for this position are:

+

Extensive knowledge of the PNG legislation related to environmental and cultural heritage (Environment Act, Environment (Water Quality Criteria) Regulation, National Cultural Property (Preservation) Act).

+

Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

+

Knowledgeable and experienced in environmental compliance, incident investigation and reporting processes.

+

Experience in managing environmental and cultural heritage issues relevant to Oil and Gas Development Projects.

+

Experience in working with Primary contractors to ensure their systems meet Company expectations, permit conditions and other regulatory compliance.

+

Planning and implementation of monitoring programs.

+

PNG project construction execution experience is considered desirable.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications required for this position are:

+

Bachelor degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Archaeology or related discipline.

+

Acceptance by the National Museum and Art Gallery to undertake cultural heritage and archaeological surveys within PNG strongly regarded but not essential.
