Job Title

Field Superintendent – Utilities, Pipeline Corridor

Situation in Organization

Reporting to: OSBL Area 3 Manager (Utilities, Pipeline, MEG)


Job Dimensions

  • Major LNG development project with an overall capital cost in the multi?billion?dollar range.
  • Onshore facilities include:
    • 2 LNG trains (approx. 13 mtpa total)
    • LNG and condensate storage
    • Marine facilities (jetty and loading)
    • Power generation
    • Utilities and early site infrastructure
  • Onshore EPC contract value approximately on the order of several billion USD, with construction representing a substantial portion.
  • Site personnel expected to peak at around 15,000.
  • The OSBL Field Superintendent supports the Area Manager in monitoring and overseeing the EPC Contractor’s activities within the assigned scope.
  • OSBL scope includes but is not limited to utilities, pipelines, MEG facilities, and related offsite systems.

Activities

  • Lead by example and foster a strong safety culture within both Client and EPC Contractor teams.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable HSE requirements.
  • Support the Area Manager in responsibilities related to the Pipeline and Utilities team.
  • Ensure team performance meets corporate standards and requirements.
  • Promote collaboration, teamwork, and trust.
  • Report any incidents occurring in the assigned area without delay.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project requirements through to system handover to Commissioning.
  • Build effective working relationships with the EPC Contractor for daily coordination and critical issue resolution.
  • Support development and review of execution plans, method statements, and procedures.
  • Maintain regular site presence to demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, and oversight.
  • Review construction progress, provide reporting input, identify schedule risks, and propose mitigation measures.
  • Support overall site management through coordination with other departments.
  • Identify risks and propose solutions using technical expertise and lessons learned.
  • Oversee execution of all phases including pre?commissioning and handover to commissioning teams, including SIMOPS.
  • Review and monitor EPC Contractor construction management processes.
  • Attend construction planning meetings and follow up on actions.
  • Coordinate QA/QC activities to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Support emergency drill planning and participate in incident investigations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and handover of work packages and as-built records.
  • Promote continuous improvement and encourage innovation within the team and contractor personnel.

Context and Environment

  • Multinational project entity with significant social performance obligations and external financing requirements.
  • Remote site location with limited infrastructure and communication reliability.
  • Site subject to health and security mitigation measures.
  • Rotational position.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure safe delivery of assigned facilities during construction and handover to Operations in line with approved cost and schedule.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure safe, timely, and fit?for?purpose execution of work.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline (advanced degree or professional certifications preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 5 years in a superintendent or equivalent leadership role on large multidisciplinary projects.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience on greenfield projects.
  • Experience in LNG liquefaction (preferred), or petrochemical, refinery, gas processing, or pipeline projects.
  • Strong understanding of project success factors: safety, environmental management, scheduling, quality, organisational competency, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated strong HSE leadership and ability to promote a safety?driven culture.
  • Effective communication and decision?making skills.
  • Strong English language skills; additional languages (e.g., Portuguese or French) advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of international construction standards and regulations (API, ASME, ISO, NFPA, etc.).
  • Proven SIMOPS management experience.
  • Experience ensuring proper documentation, as?built records, and handover to operations/commissioning.
